Did you mean a ring compressor, I sure hope so cause a spring compressor will definitely not work. If you are using a ring compressor then you really should not have any problem. You have some sort of manual with you? They usually describe how you can put the piston back into the cylinder very clearly (well the helm does anyways).

My method is hold down the ring compressor with the piston inside and use the butt of a mallet to push it down. Works best with 1 swift downward push.

Screwdrivers, Spring Compressor...Wtf? To save yourself some headaches and a fresh hone on those cylinders don't even think about putting a screwdriver near your cylinder walls. If it's not a rush, look into buying a piston ring compressor from arp, they them specifically designed for a certain piston diameter, this will make the job a lot easier especially if you haven't done this before... Otherwise, if you're using an adjustable ring compressor, take your time... compress it around the piston and rings and GENTLY tap the piston into the cylinder with the handle of a mallet. Don't force it or you'll end up with a broken (bent) piston ring that might possibly etch the cylinder wall. Just take your time and be precautious, Good luck
