Which year and model is your Civic Coupe?
If it came with 185/65-14 stock tires, you want 205/45-16. (I got this wrong in my earlier post, which I deleted.)

No, he doesn't. Almost no tires come in 215/40-16. And 205/45-16 is a lot closer to the original tire diameter than 215/40-16.

The EJ1 ('93-95) came with 185/60-14 tires stock, not the 185/65-14 of the later Coupes.
Your best 16" size is 205/40-16, not 205/45-16. But there's a bigger selection in the 205/45-16. If you can't find a suitable tire in the 205/40, then look at 205/45.

OG diameter is 22.74, 215/40/16 is 22.77. Toyos T1S come in that size. 205/45/16 is 23.26
you do the math.

My previous statement was under the assumption that he had a later Civic Coupe with 185/65 stock tires. He later clarified to note that his is an earlier Civic Coupe, which came with 185/60 tires. You are correct that 215/40-16 is a close fit in outer diameter to the 185/60. However, as I already mentioned, very few tires come in that size. For example, the Tire Rack has only five tires in that size (and they include a track tire and a tire that's being discontinued, just like the T1S is being discontinued).
Have you tried 215/40-16 tires on an EJ1? Do they rub?

i have tried the size on my CRX and with around 2" lowering the rear do rub, if the lip is not rolled. but i do like the extra width on the patch.
