is this a better replacement for motor mounts??

or do i have to run both the damper and motor mounts for the engine to be stiff and not move anywhere?

 

Either will do the trick, I'd prob opt for motor mounts first

 

The J's damper supplements your existing mounts. If you don't want to motor to move at all, just weld up some solid metal brackets.

 

i'm just looking for something that will hold the engine in place but doesn't cause any vibrations throughout the car.

The J's damper won't cause as much vibration as stiff motor mounts, but it's also not as effective.
