...used to use an AEM hat and rotor (they have now sold out their brakes to powerslot) but to save money just having the hats duplicated at a machine shop...i have a couple weeks to decide on the rotors but will most likely go with the power slot. May need a thin wheel spacer too...waiting to pick up the conversion bracket to test the clearance on my wheel (the only other Honda i've seen this done on normally runs an SSR Comp)

I imagined the calipers to be a grip, but for something cheaper and a lil easier to find would be RX-7 GTU or T2 4 pistons AL calipers or even cheaper and easy to find but alil heavy are the 4 piston calipers from older 4runners and toyo pickups. They are a DIY upgrade for S30 Z guys since it's a bolt affair. I scored some earlier 90's 4 pistons calipers from a 4Runner and they are quite nice and I can't wait to get these on my 280z. Nice setup though and give us a more indepth info on it.

the toyota calipers are too heavy to consider an upgrade for a honda. but the later year calipers are said to be aluminium, which are lighter.

How much do the Porsche calipers weigh? I just picked up 3 sets of the toyota calipers and sold one set already on ebay for 120. Those damn near gave me a hernea carrying then back to the front desk at the junkyard and then got some off the pickup and then a mid 90's 4runner which appear to be the AL versions which I'm keeping for my Z. The earlier versions weren't AL for sure since they have quite abit of surface rust on them while the newer versions didn't have a spec on them. I'd post some pics but my acount on photobucket went over it's limit so they suspended my linking for a month. But for 20 for a pair you can't pass that up. They make the civic/teg calipers look scrawny.

Using my only scale, a 75 year old balance scale that measures up to 100lbs before adding weights (yeah, it's pretty large but still accurate), the weight with fresh pads came out to 6 - 6.5 lbs. It's a 4 piston aluminum monoblock caliper from Brembo, produced for the rear of the Boxster and Carrera 4...I think the Boxster S uses the same calipers as the 996's. I'll call a Porsche dealership this week and get a part number on it, i know they retail for about $380-400 each.

I would imagine these calipers have a alot better selection of pads available vs. the Toyota... Hawk HPS Part: HB290F.606 & HP PLUS Part: HB290N.606 for example and the rear pad is only about 8% smaller than the Porsche's front 6 piston.

I believe the rotor is 13.5 inches but i'll know 100% sometime this week, if not tomorrow. The SSR in the picture above is a 15" and the caliper will scrub the stick on wheel weight's if you're not careful. The friend that has the conversion brackets has 7 or 8 sets left (think the minimum order machined was 10) and once the hats are made then a kit price can be calculated out. With used calipers, and me doing most of the work putting it all together, it's going to cost me about 1/5 the price of the brembo big brake kit [111-5002A] and little over 1/2 of the cheapest Wilwood. I could simply go out and get an AP Racing kit used for $800-1,200 but what's the fun in that, especially when i can do it for less?

i dont understand by that quote of yours. but are you saying if you arent careful it wont clear some 15" wheels? or is it supposed to clear 15" wheels?

hes saying if your not careful, it will NOT clear a 15" wheel. he is referring to the stick on wheel weights that go on the inside of the wheel in order to balance the tire/wheel assembly

my bad, the rotor on this setup is only about 12"...someone had told me they were positive it was over 13" and thought for sure it was 13.5". I didn't think you could stuff all that inside a 15" wheel.
