-_-_- Project SonicEG -_-_- The Quest Continues -_-_-
Welp, the time has come, my EG restoration thread has now been created. I started this project way back in November of 04, so were rolling in on the one year mark. The project started quick, and then came to a screaching hault do to income issues, and up untill recently, has seen little progress.
Back in November 2004, the car was in sorry shape, the previous two owners bought the car with the same intent as myself, but with little progression, so the information on what happened to the car, is unknown. When I first bought the car, heres what I was looking at:

The damage to the car, was more than the naked eye (or my eye apparently) could see, and I ended up with a bigger project then planned. There was severe a-pillar damage, the fender, door, and hood all ruined, and several dents and dings around the rest of the body. On the inside, the dash & glovebox were crushed from the same , I assume, accident, and also needed to be replaced. About a week after I bought the car, it got hit in a parking lot, and cracked the back bumper pretty badly. Around December 2004 the hatchback entered the body shop. Had big plans for the car at this point, and was paying for the work one step at a time.. Apparently a bad decision. I had bought a Nissan 240sx for a daily while the hatch was in the shop. The car seemed sound, so I had no reason to fear entering the EG Restoration project with full force. The hatch went into the shop, got some work done, and just about as the A-Pillar was cut out of the Civic, I blew the #4 piston rod through the block within about 15min from hearing the initial rod knock (I was on my way home to check it out). Had to be the worst timing ever, maybe not. January 05, Lost my job because the X-Mas rush was over, and apparently my job was a temp position, so funding had come to a hault as the Civic was torn apart, and my means of transportation were M.I.A. Since I didn't have the money to finish the Civic, or to fix the 240sx, the Civic had to be thrown together, and as much of the spray done as possible so it wouldn't rust, seeing as it was winter, and I live in the salt state of Wisconsin. Heres where the car sat after this point:

After this, working around my school schedual to find a job was tough. Some time passed before I found a job, and during which time, borrowing money from people added up, tickets piled up, bills were adding in stacks, and my debt was getting out of control, to top it off, first my transmission decided to go in the early summer, a $350 replacement, and then a few months later, my engine decided to go. My uncle was kind enough to lend me the money to get a new engine, but would only help pay for the same engine, because he didn't want me to get a fast engine and get myself into more trouble than I was already in, and seeing as I didn't have a garage, tools, or driveway at the time, I had to pay a shop to do the swap on top of it. So for a new D16 out of a 2000 Civic DX, cost me $700 w/ parts+labor, not bad I guess considering the engine only had 8,000mi on it. Finally I got a new job, which felt like I was working for free, because I was working to pay people back. Now I am finnally catching up on my debt, and am just paying of the remainder of my tickets, and then the money can finally be dumped into the hatch like originally planned. I just recently came across a man parting out a wrecked EG hatch on a local forum, and he had many of the parts I needed. For $150 I got a new dash, glove box, glove box assy, carbon fiber hood, and rear bumper. This completed the list of big parts that I needed. As of today, this is how the hatch stands:

This winter calls for some big plans, and hopefully it doesnt turn out like last. You guys will be one of the first to know of any updates, and I will keep them confined in this thread. Keep checking up on this thread, as there should soon to be updates. Thank you for your time, and all the help you guys on h-t have given me.

Wow man, and I thought I had a little bit of work ahead of me. I need to do some cleaning and repairing of some minor things, bnut nothing this extensive. I noticed that the paint job included the removal of the doors, is that typical? I ask because I am needing to get a paint job as well and some friends are refering this guy who dos $800 - $4200 paint jobs and I don't want to sell myself short. Wish you luck.

cuz_ican: its already been covered. Read above a few posts. But if you're not able to find it, he said he had to get as much of the car painted before funds ran so it didnt rust while the car had to sit in wisconsin during the winter. In the last picture you can see one side is blue (clearly vissable on the passenger mirror and fender) and the other is green (along with the front bumper). If you look at the pics of the blue parts, you'll notice theres only 1 door, 1 set of molding, 1 sideskirt, 1 fender.
Good luck, like the new color

Thanks for the comments guys, its a good boost of confidence to keep me going

Yes, they usually pull the doors to do the door jams, if you pay for it of course, an el-cheapo paintjob would just be a tape-off and spray. I chose/am choosing, to do a full spray, body, door jams, engine bay when it gets pulled (after I get a new motor), and I might even do the interior, but every little bit is extra and you pay more for. I can reveal how much i'm paying for my paint job, but $4200 if the guy is good, isnt bad, the shop i'm going through normally charges $3500 for a full outter paint job on a smaller (sport compact-ish) car for same color, or $7,000 for a outter+jams of a new color, pretty pricey, but this guy does some amazing ****.

Welp, i'm still saving for the next step, but theres free (or close to it) work that can still be done. Can't really tell in pictures, but the cf hood kinda bows in the middle, so I was thinking maybe if I did the 'cowl' style hood with it up higher in the back it would be more straight and look better. You guys think I should do this or not?
