Default Power loss being at higher elevation. Help.

My 93 engine loses power when I'm at a certain elevation. I step on the gas an it feels like i'm on two cyclinders. I don't know what the problem is. Does anyone have this problem?

Higher elevation= thinner/less dense air which = less oxygen

up here in vail Im always rollin at 8150. I finally played w/ my vafc and upped the air ratio and its better. It'd be nice if there was an import scene up here so I could get it dyno'd, but if you can up the air ratio if your constantly up there then that'll help.

upped the air ratio, do you mean leaned it out? regardless the stock ecu should be able to compensate for changes in elevation just fine, besides there shouldnt THAT noticable of a difference anyway.

It happens to me sometimes when I go to the mountains. It feels like I have to hit the gas much harder just to get up a hill. Like was stated before, the air is thinner, so your motor has to work more. This is the reason elevation plays a huge roll in 1/4 mile times. Unless your car feels like it's going to blow up, it's normal if you're not used to it.

Turbocharge your engine. Then you'll always have enough air.

That's why the best Pike's Peak and WRC cars use turbos.

something tells me he's just not downshifting or something, i've been in the mountains around here plenty of times and not once was it noticable to the point where my car feels like its on 2 cylinders. as the car goes up a mountain it gradually gets slower it shouldn't hit all of a sudden and now it feels like the car isnt moving like it should.

Yup, my car gets a lot slower when I'm towards the top when I'm on a mountain run.

Not much you can do, really, other than push for more power!
