Default Over Tighten Oil Pan bolts?

Is it possible to over tighten the bolts on the oil pan? it looks like the gasket is squeezing out the edges of the oil pan. should i loosen them or do i need to start over and do it again or just leave it?

in a service manual, for basic service you can get away with the one they sell at autoparts sore; for more complex tasks your going to want to use helms.

8lb-ft is the spec for oil pan bolts/nuts

if the gasket its getting crushed and squeezing out the sides your to tight.

i found that 8-10 ft/lbs might be a little to tight (sometimes). i like to used 30-40 in/lbs and i never had a problem with them leaking.

Id find the stock torque specs, on my h22 i tightened them handtight, then another half rotation, and one of them worked itself out halfway..

it is definitely possible to overtorque the oil pan. and in some cases it will cause it to leak. definitely follow the specs.
