Default Gas Smell Within Car

1990 Civic Si

When i park it in my garage over night, i get in it and immediately i get an over powering smell of gasoline. Not pleasant. Air freshener only changed the smell to something horrible

any ideas on what could be causing this?

ya i get this too, herd it was cuz the gas was getting into the oil because of bad piston rings.

i called my friends dad

he said it may be from a small leak in the gas tank.

turns out its right, i can smell it when i get underneath the car.

if you end up dropping the tank might as well replace the pump while its off.

kinda like when you do a timing belt, its best to do the tensioner and water pump cuz its easy at that point.

Is the carpet on the left side of the drivers footwell soaked with gas? The fuel line tends to corrode through there.
