Default z6 help, error 4

Putting a z6 in a 90 dx.
My boy already converted to MPFI using an Si manifold, 88-91 Si dizzy, resistor box, PM7 ECU, and wiring, etc.
When the car was cranked, it would not tach over 3500 RPM's and is throwing error code 4. (crank agle) The Vtec is not hooked up.

Need help.

OBD-0 currently has an 88-91 dist.
My mechanic is telling me to order a D16Z6 dist.
Im unsure whether this will, fix the problem, or even work in the first place.

wont work, kik ur mechanic in the nuts.

obd-0 and obd-1 dists have a different number of teeths on the sensors inside. an obd-0 cannot be used on obd-1 and vise-versa.

chances are the the dist was wired wrong when you did the mpfi change over.

otherwise youve got a bad dist.

A z6 dist. won't work in a z6 engine?

Should I just order another 88-91 dist?
Thanks

no, a z6 dist works fine in a z6 ENGINE, its the pm7 that will hate it.

the 88-91 Si dist has to be rigged up ghetto like on the z6. the mounting ears are different.

the most stock like solution is to use a z6 dist on the z6 motor and convert the ecu and engine wiring to obd1.

Since this swap is nearly done, how hard is it to switch over to obd-1?

you need.

1. the z6 dist if u dont have it.
2. a obd-1 ecu, (p28 matches z6 perfectly)
3. a obd-0 to obd-1 jumper harness ($100 approx)
4. 4-wire o2 sensor.
5. some wiring

i believe thats all of it.

If thats too much to do right now, then check the wiring @ the dist. It sounds like it was done wrong during the mpfi swap.
