Default Ok i have a Vtec ?

OK so my buddy has a 93 hatch with at b16a motor and a 94 integra dash. The problem is His Vtec wont work. We wired a vtec controller and it still wont work. He thinks its something in the dash. Which i thought as long as power is going the controller should turn vtec on. Does anyone have an idea? We check to be sure there is power going to the solenoid. Thanks if anyone has an idea of what to check for.

Well its not my car he said he checked the fuses. We know its not working because when it was in his coupe you could hear it. now in the 93 hatch there is no sound plus the power begins to drop off in high rpms.

wire it direct to a switch and ground or run a wire from the power side to the battery. with the car off touch it to a twelve volt source (battery) and make sure the solenoid clicks.

I dont see how the dash would have anything to do with vtec.

In fact, it wouldnt. Did he touch the engine harness?

does the cluster work? if so any CEL?

Oil level ok?

CHeck wiring for vtec solenoid.

might sound dumb.....and maybe it is, but VTEC works only at certain engine temperature...if its not warm enough, it wont engage.

With a stock ECU you need to be at operating temperature and at 20+ mph for vtec to engage.

You said he is using a VTEC controller, correct? Was he using the controller in his old car?

yeah he has a vtec controller and the same controller was in his old car. Even with the controller do you still need the speed to work? i thought that no matter what the controller would tell vtec to kick. I sold this vtec controller to him a while ago. I had it in my civic and if it was cold still the vtec would turn one would end up throwing a vtec code but i would work no matter. thats why im having a prob with this. i figure it should be working.

Make sure the vtec controller is hooked up properly. My roomate bought a 94 eg hatch w/ a b16. Vtec was working until the guy riding with him accidentally bumped the controller. Vtec stopped working. Just make sure everything is hooked up properly.

Ok so i asked about this awhile back and finally got time to go over and mess with it. so the car is a 93 hatch. and the old owner had put an h22 motor in it. he mess with lots of stuff to make it work. any way i figured out the vtec prob today. I guess the h22 wiring harness to the motor has the vtm signal wire and the vtec wire swapped compared to a civic. those two come to find out were in opposite places. so we switched them and how its all good. the thing finally drives like it should well kinda. its a long work in progress. Just keeping everyone posted.
Thanks for any info and help that was given.
