Default EG fan problems

My temp gauge was jumping from normal position the other day and when I stopped to check it out the fluid was still at the normal level and the motor was not any hotter then normal. A couple days later while the car was warm I noticed the fan was not running but the ac fan was, what could be the reason for the jumping in the temp gauge?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

your switch on the thermostat housing probably went bad. What you should do is get a paper clip or a piece of wire and short circuit the harness end that plugs into the switch and that will trigger the fan to run constant. Solution for now

Well, you drive an EG(most likely it's actually an EH2 or EH3, but who's counting). Anyway, it's most likely the stock radiator fan, if not radiator, so there is prolly a lot of wear both on the wiring side and hardware side. I would first see if you are getting power. This can be done with a simply volt meter. If you ARE getting power to the fan, then you can most likely determine that it's the fan itself, or the connection between the wiring and fan is not working.

At this point you're gonna want to play with the connection a bit.. try pushing it in, wiggling it.. just see if you can get the fan to start up. If you cant manage to get the fan to start with the stock connection, maybe wire up a switch or something to manualy turn it on(it's really not that hard to do). If all else fails, get a new fan either at an autoparts store or a junkyard. Shouldnt run you more than 100 bucs or so.
