Ok, so my girlfriend just got a new civic with a d15 (94 DX). She's wanting to get all the power out of it with out doing to much work, say as in setting it up for low compression and few other things. So the question is, how would you do it with out blowing it up and what kind would be the best?

Please help, reputation with her is on the line!!!

You may want to look into swapping in a better motor first, like a D16Z6. Maybe an EX tranny on that D15.

Best way to do it would be to get a small turbo (I'm using a TD04 14G). It starts spooling around 2300 and by 2500 I'm at 5psi, by 3500 I'm at 7psi.

I'll ask a mod to move this to FI, you'll get a better response there.

 

yeah i know that, i told her that she's not going to much out of that motor but she doesnt want to change anything mechanically or motor wise except some gaskets. i read somewhere that you can no more than 8 psi and thats pushing it. she also wants to how much of a power gain she would get and i cant come up witha number with that low of pressure.

 

Get a greddy turbo kit...it runs about 6 psi in base trim, and you'll probably get around 140WHP out of it (close to a stock B16).

 

Tell her she could gain an easy 30HP by spending $350 on a motor.

You figure the motor makes around 80HP stock at 14.7psi (atmospheric pressure)
You want to boost it to 8psi, so a total of 22.7psi

80/14.7=x/22.7

14.7x=80*22.7

x= (80*22.7)/14.7

Theoretically she could be pushing about 123HP@8psi

I'd rather spend the 350 to do the swap, and then boost later. She's looking at at least a grand just to get to 120HP.

 

run a Apex-i turbo kit...very safe...i ran it for a year and a half know....nots wrong still runs strong....(its my beater)..

 

explain to her that its "cooler" to do an "engine swap" and people will respect that more than a turbo. Also she'll save money toward making it look "pretty". Thats all if shes like my gf how actually thought she needed a muffler belt. i also know a girl that runs 13.1 in her dsm so it all depends

 

Tell her you're going to change her muffler belt and do the engine swap. She'll thank you afterwards.

yeah i heard about the greddy turbo and how it runs low enough for this motor, and yes i know its cooler to do a engine swap and i would like to do it for her (might get me some because of it to) but its her decision and her money (rich daddy makes a rich bitch). back to the greddy would she have to replace the anything with that or upgrade anything? im already replacing the head gasket along with a valve job done.
