What engine for a sedan?
OK, I am currently looking into doing a swap for my '90 sedan because we all know how much those d15b2's suck! Anyway, I would like to know what the rest of the HT'ers think would be the best swap to go with.

Go with the ZC and a SI tranny. Great first swap. ZC's can be had for 500(ballpark)...and I've seen SI trannys gor for a 100....nice HP/$$ upgrade if you ask me.

And we all know Mustang Dyno's read 15% lower then Dynojets and from that there is a percentage lower then crank.......</TD></TR></TABLE>
if you had little more to work with cash wise i'd say LS swap

In a sedan I would have to say with the added weight to have something fun and quick I would looking to B-series. If I had the money I would have myself a nice little "stock" sedan...oh yeah and nevermind the PSHT everytime I shift.
I'm putting a d16z6 in mine.
The engine is cheap, the parts are cheap and easy to find, and there are a TON of aftermarket parts for it.
Plus, it has almost as much power as the DOHC ZC and costs much less.

I just got done dropping a sohc zc in yesterday having tried starting it up yet...way too tired and it was too dark. "Planning" on starting it up and rolling it saturday. I'd have to say it was the easiest swap i've ever done.
Planning on slapping a d16y8 head on and going vtec, just for a little more power and a newer cleaner head.
Planning on selling it after that though. no need for a 4th vehicle.

If you had the money H22 if you don't you can't go wrong with a DOHC ZC. I did a DOHC ZC swap in january, easy as hell and fun too. If you're gonna do a D16a6 why not just take one more step and go ZC because its the same swap, the only difference is you have 2 cams and more torque and horsepower. They are very reliable, I beat the **** out of mine and it's still running nice, any questions check out The ZC Resource.

Ever wonder what you are going to have to do when it comes time to smog your car? Basically you would either have to get the B16 and make your car Del Sol specs, or get the K20 which is pretty expensive... You should probably reconsider the entire thing. The others wont pass or can't be BAR certified, for example the B20 "truck" engine, etc

it seems like i read sumwhere that as long as the motor that is being swapped is newer than the car that it is going into.........[in Cali] it;s legal. Is this true?
No Japanese spec engines are not. They must have all of the US emssions control devices on them and must have a US equivalent, etc But yes the engine must also come out of the same year car or newer.

The D16a6 only puts out 96 tq where a DOHC ZC puts out 106 tq, having driven both engines in the same car I can personally confirm.

I'm sorry, this is a like a political fight, I am going to stay and Conservative and scream D16A6 all day.

Being that as it may, i think I should change my question a little bit.-->What engine would give me the most "bang for my buck" and would also be legal in California?
