is anyone running a gt28rs with a hks t25 manifold on a b18? did u have to clock the turbo at all or did u have to shave the block? any one got some pics??? thanks

How's this picture? I think it's a B18c1, the turbo/manifold I know for sure is my old HKS w/gt2871r (compressor is just a tad bigger )




PM abnaasefmb for more pictures, he's a good guy. If he has updated pics, send me some links, I'd like to see how it coming too. I'm not sure if you can mount it with the compressor on the other side, maybe that's why you're asking if it needs to be shaved to fit. IIRC, it's made to fit AC with the greddy/hks cast downpipe, so I'd assume it fits. The manifold is the same as the greddy, which fits the 16g/18g/20g etc turbos fine.

pretty sure the 16g & 18g use different flanges than the 20g. all aside i am interested too, this has been one option that i have been looking into

Actually, they all use the same flange.

 

damn, thanks for putting it on me tony1 (i think) has the same set up (hks gt2871) on a b18 and its SUPER CLEAN not madd getto like mine.

Yep, the turbo has to be clocked. I have the compressor at the other side though, and I didn't have to grind down the block to make it fit. Here's a pic:

There was absolutely no room to run a filter though. I have the 0.86 a/r housing and I had to bend the oil dipstick tube slightly to avoid it hitting the turbine housing.

I know this is off topic, but I was planning on running the same setup HKS/GT28RS or a log(inline pro)/GT2871R, and want to keep AC and PS, just wondering if it can be done. I can see Tony is still running PS, but i dunno if theirs rooms for AC

are the configurations for the gt28rs and the gt2871r the same? like would the internal wastegate get in the way if i tried to clock the turbo??

 

Yeah, I like clocked the turbo like six times, and I’m going to do it again today. I’m ******* crazy like that!!!
Ok here’s the deal, I would say 99.99999% of the time if you buy a turbo, it will need to be clocked. I know messing around with a $1000.00 turbo can seem scary, but its really not a big deal. I did it once and was like “whoooo who” I’m done. Wrong. I put it on the manifold and it was tilted, clocked it again. Thought maybe I’ll run the turbine on the drivers side like tony the tiger, clocked it again. Realized I couldn’t run an air filter, turned it back around, clocked it again. Now I have to clock it again because the charge pipe needs to be moved. Bottom line don’t fear the clock its like sir mix a lot said “clocking lots of turbos, we all got gold. Rolling in the benz and aint got no place to go” (sorry unless your like 30 yo you didn’t get that). Its easy just loosen the bolts up a bit and turn the housing, sung down the bolts and that’s it.

Now if I wanted to save money and time and not learn anything, and I just had to have a gt28something I would buy one from atp turbo with the t3 drop in. this eliminates the gt turbine housing and the internal wastegate. Then I would buy a nice t3 manifold and down pipe from one of the many reputable companies that advertise here on H-T. this would have saved me time, money, and headaches. But I’m way too hardheaded for that. Just search the internet and see if you can find a down pipe for a gt28 on a hks manifold. Hope this helped.

I forgot to mention that i had to slightly modify the internal wastegate actuator bracket when i clocked the turbo. It's nothing special, any DIY'er would know what do to when face with a similar issue.
