my 94 civic DX's speedometer needle has been intermittently dropping and resuming normal operation. I was told it is for sure the Vehicle speed sensor on the transmission.

However when the needle does drop, i have been smacking the gauge cluster and it pops right back up, so I'm thinking it could be something in the gauges rather than the sensor. Any thoughts on this problem would be great.
