Hello,

I was offered a deal to buy a 95 civic LX, 5 speed, for $2000.

It has 140,000 miles on it. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any info on things i should look for or look out for on this car. Is 140,000 mile alot for a honda? I heard that honda's run in the ground 250,000 +.

Please any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I think that is a pretty fair price. You need to just check and make sure there is no oil, coolant, etc. leaking, check for CEL codes, etc. I would say that it is true you could make that motor last at least 250,000 if it is in good condition. I know someone with a civic that has 350,000 and the motor just barely went out. Jump on that deal

How do i check the CEL codes?

 

Good price How is the car outside? Does the owner
have records of what has been replaced?

 

The car is actually from an auction. My friend own's a car dealership, and picked it up for $2000, i think book value is like $4,500. Anyway since he's my friend, he will give me the car for $2000. The body is in excellent condition, and drives great.

Just make sure you find out the record on the vehicle. Try carfax with the
vin # first to make sure the car hasnt been in any major accidents or
the mileage hasnt been changed or anything like that.

Anyone know what kind of engine is in this car? And what mod's can i do to it?

 

It's a D15 non-VTEC. Not really much you can do to it. I'd say take it and drive it until it dies, you'll get more than your money's worth out of it as long as you don't start throwing cash and parts at it.
