...Or, is it ok to run 1.5" all the way from the 35mm flange, as long as it's at least 18" past the turbo and re-merges at a narrow angle?

Sounds like that will be fine. No need to flare. However, maximum HP will not be seen with a rerouted Wastegate dumptube. Why not just dump to open atmosphere? Much less work with much better results.

I've read through all the threads I could find. The FMAX 40hp loss was due to a bad design on their part. If done properly, there should be little to no hp loss. Even if I lose 10hp, it's worth it to me. I hate the sound, and really look forward to having a clean sounding car again.

If sound is you focus than merging with the downpipe with as minimal angle possible will be your best bet.

Thanks for the help. Does anyone else have an opinion on my original question?

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but is it really better not to have it going in at an angle? I've been thinking about doing the same thing because I don't like the open dump sound.

You want it to go in at a narrow angle.

lucidvtec, what size wastegate are you using, and what is the diameter of the dumptube?

I read about this, but I think it was a test done by FMAX. The link doesn't work anymore. Anyway, 3" is way too close, and that's one of the reasons why there was a 40whp difference.

Right now, my main concern is purchasing the properly sized piping for a 35/38 mm wastegate.
