Default Speedometer not Speedometering

I have a 92 CX and have just recently installed a 94 del Sol Si D16Z6 in it. It runs great but the speedo is acting goofy. In the morning when I first leave it will work, but after about 10-15 minutes of driving it will jump around a bit, then drop down to 0. Any tips or tricks on figuring this out would be greatly appreciated.

This same thing happened to me, but the fact you just did a swap makes be belive you have a loose connection on or around the VSS. One test I did to test my cluster is when the needle is at zero I gave the cluster a good tap and the needle jumped around, so I replaced the cluster and problem never came back. If you have a manual there is a voltage test to show if your VSS is putting out a signal or not.

This link shows a center picture of the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor).

Not to highjack... but if a diagnostic test is run and it throws the the VSS sensor code is it possible that just the fuse is bad?

I have the same problem
It won't work 25% of the time, then it will jump like crazy and bounce around a bit
for like a sec then either go back to not working or work fine.

It's done this with both engines. stock and b18
it works better with the B18 but still does it.

it's probebly your cluster.

I'm sure since youve done a swap that you have an manual but it might work both ways. that crap started happening to me and my rpms would jump around and do the same thing and eventually just read at zero all the time. i took it to a shop and it was my speed sensor, it was also affecting my engine while i was driving it would go to like 3000 then back to 1000 back and forth back and forth whenver i would let off the gas. got the speed sensor fixed and it worked like a charm.

What is the voltage test for manuals?

My speedo has been fubared forever. Certain weather it will work, others it wont. I just judge by the rpms. I'll have to check the thermo ground tomorrow.
