so I just picked up a 95 hatch, I was told it was a vx(no decals). I have looked all over the car and there is nothing that says what model it is, I know it has the d15b8 which would indicate that it is a cx but the motor could have been replaced for all I know, so does anyone know how to tell by the vin #?

 

run your vin# and it should tell you the model or you could check the wiring connectors that run to the distributor to see if vtec is wired.

 

The 8th digit in the Vin # sequence from left to right indicates what trim level hatchback you have. example: 2HGEH236*PH500001

4: CX
5: DX
6: VX
8: Si

 

my Si has a 9, not an 8

mine has a 5, not a 4. I KNOW its not a dx... CX for sure.
EDIT: ohhh, looks like you may have gotten the scale wrong based on SI guy here. prolly one up. 5=CX, 6=DX, 7=VX, and 9=SI

 

mine has an 8 and its an Si

 

ahh it should say d15z1 on the block number and have a p07 ecu

 

well it definitely says d15b8

 

just check if there is a Vtec plug hanging around in ur engine bay, if yes, VX or SI, if yes and no sunroof, VX, vice-versa, no vtec plug dangling, DX or CX

 

also, does it haave options? any of them? clock? side moldings on the doors?

Post a pic of the engine bay and I'll tell you what it is.

I owned a VX for a number of years so I'm pretty familiar with them. I wish I would have kept it, I consistently got 40+ mpg.

 

it has no clock no sidemoldings, its sittin on steelies(way i bought it) i wish it had the vx wheels, no power anything, does have ac, i dont get but about 30mpg but then again it has a single wire o2 sensor and the wire was draggin on the ground so it may be roughed up a bit. It has 5 as the eigth number in vin

Maybe I'm wrong.. Sounds like a CX. How many valves does it have? If it has 8, it's a CX.

Sounds like a CX to me. I'm almost 100% sure the VX has a 4-wire O2 sensor.

Does the cluster have a shift light?

Look near the turn signal, and look for a little 'up arrow', if you have one. It's a CX.

I sure the VX 92-93 have 5 wires, and the 94-95 have 4 wires. Well at least my 95 vx have 4.

The Vin Identification info was taken out of my 93 HELMS manual. It must be different digits for different years i guess.

Does your Si have ABS? Is it a 94? I have a hunch that 9 denotes the ABS equipped Si starting in 94. But i could be wrong.

 

VX's Should have:
1. Front lip
2. 13" alloy wheels
3. Tach going to 8K
4. Block should say D15Z1
5. It should have a rear diffuser on the driver's side between the rear bumper and the chassis:

6. Another thing Is the VX's have a big black EGR box mounted in the middle of the firewall. here's a pic of what i'm talking about: (NOT MY CAR)

7. Also maybe the valve cover says VTEC-E ? mine doesn't, but others might.
8. VX should have power NOTHING: no power windows/doors/steering/seats/mirrors/locks.
9. Only comes in manual.

As some members have already mentioned. It sounds like a CX not a VX

The 92-93 only had HONDA on it, and the 94-95 had Vtec-E.
