Default GSR SC61 is overheating ??

Check my sig for some pics of my setup (crx gsr sc61 precision medium), but my radiator setup is not shown.

I got a 2 row b16 aluminum 1/2 radiator from autozone and a slimfan. I have a z10 crossmember and its sitting in the right spot, just leaning back a few degrees.

It was fine with the full radiator, but as you can see I have clearance problems with my wastegate!

I think it should be fine if i can get proper airflow to the radiator, it cools down when I stop and let the fan kick in.

Any tricks to getting good airflow to the radiator or a different setup?

Some hack ways to get by; wire the radiator to always run, run watter wetter mixture, drive without a hood. I've had to do all of these to drive my turbo crx

with that fmic in there, it seems like the radiator is totally choked off!

as soon as i open the hood, the engine is like ahhhhhhhh, cooled off in like a minute

I think the fan is a pieceo, its the autozone one. I think it only works as a puller (and its setup as a pusher)

the autozone fan doesnt flow as much air as some of the other. you can rewire the fan

Most of those slim style fans work both ways (depending on how you wire) so make sure you are pulling or pushing the air the way you want.

even with no fan i dont think i should be having so much problems. not even boosting or anything, even a cool night with the heat on, it still climbs.

ive bled the air a couple times (both methods), and the fan comes on (even though its crappy)

note: this happened before i even boosted it for the first time... so its definitely a radiator / airflow issue.

if you used to have a full length radiator and now have a half size one, you need to block off the other side cause all the air flowing at your car is going to go the path of least resistance instead of going through the radiator.

This seems to be the common overheat fix for 2005.

GENIUS!

put a piece of sheet metal or something behind the fmic covering the other half of the radiator (in front of the turbo)??

are you sure you wired the fan to be a pusher instead of a puller?

I am having the same problems with over-heating. Today I added a pusher-fan to the front of my radiator along with a puller on the backside. I wired the pusher fan to my a/c switch (no a/c) so that I can cut it on when stopped. I also cut my bumper support out. I also made a seperator out of aluminum, for I feared that my exhaust mani and downpipe were heatsoaking my radiatior since thet are right by it. I added header wrap to my mani. Took it for a drive today..... still overheating when stopped. So pissed. Pulled back in the garage and noticed that I forgot to hook up my puller fan.

All in all, The only way that I have found to keep it cool is to turn the heater on. This tells me that the radiator is not getting enough air. The only thing I have left to do is cut the hell out of my bumper, which I do not want to do.

the gsr full size radiator was designed for a reason.... not to be removed and replaced with one half the size!

i wired my fan to go on with the ignition and set it up as a puller. It stays cool in traffic and while normal driving.

Now it just overheats on the highway

whats the cfm rating on that slim fan? and a half size dual core rad is fine, 99-00 si's work fine with it, **** ive ran a b series with a single core half size rad and never had any problems, but i didnt turbo it..anyhow maybe a better fan might be a option? and making sure u dont have any air bubbles or coolin system problems
