Default Advice/Musing on the mH900e?

Just wondering if anybody here has every taken a ride or owned one of these bikes, I have been looking to start riding again and I really like the idea of this bike. Looks vintage without all of the problems with owning a old Ducati or the like.

Price not a big issue, will not be beat on mainly used for weekend rides down the coast. some freeway riding but not enough to scare me off, say 2400 miles total a year.

Yes I have a license, yes I have taken the MSF, yes I have ridden before mainly small bore stuff and dirt bikes. I started looking for a vintage ride but this seems at least a little more safe in the long run, plus it has modern rubber and is setup for it which I fear would be a big point on the older bikes.

I have yet to ride one, but that is not the main issue for me on this bike. I looked long and hard, I was looking at them when they first came out... and I was looking at getting one up until just a couple months ago.

When shopping for one, take a good look at the bike, fit and finish of the soft parts can be a problem(the frame and swing arm are awesome). I was not impressed by many of the examples that I have seen in person and I have seen many many in person in anticipation of a purchase. It always kind of bugged me that the bike look Soooo excellent in pictures and so good from 10' away, but up close under, close examination, it kind of falls a... little flat. Not ugly, not horrible, but kind of like... "I paid __________(insert your price here, current market on this bike in mint condition SHOULD be anywhere from $10k-$11.5k) for this? you kinda get what I am saying? I mean it has a BEAUTIFUL frame, a BEAUTIFUL swing arm, and a 900 engine ... it has parts on it that are fake, like teh deep sump "cowl"... I really tried my best to like this bike, I mean really. cash was not the problem, but i just could not justify a $10k buy in on the MH900e like I can for a $20K+ NERA... just can not do it. All things being equal, I really would like to take one and strip the hell out of it (not much there) and put a 996 or a testastretta engine in it and get rid of all the fake goodies but keep the look to it, Ohlins front and rear .... now your talking. But the buy in for me is to much to think about tearing it apart and throwing away half the bike. I would consider buying a striped bike, a clean slate if you will.

All the gripping done, I can not blame anyone for getting the bike, she is beautiful, it has a great following, it handles very nicely from what I have been told, and you will be in a semi exclusive club

Funny I see the motor as a plus, reliable, nice low end power from what I have read, though a 996 motor would have been amazing.

All I have seen is pictures and one from 20 feet away in the hills. I need to stop down at GP motorcycle and see if they have one avaliable or one in service so that I can get a closer look at one.

10K for a ridden example is what I am seeing, there seems to be a decent amount of aftermarket support. more then likely 11.5K for anice example with california plate and currently registered.

it is a 50 state bike, no problems. ebay is your friend. the most mileage I have seen is maybe 1500 miles... most are sub 1000 and many sub 500. the 900 engine is a plus compared to what? something 30 years old? of course it is, but it is not a plus in the modern times, this version of the 900 engine dates pretty far back into ducati's history my friend. Like I said, I could not blame anyone for buying an MH, but take a good hard look first. perhaps it is my experience that is tempering my conclusions, but in the grand scheme of things, as long as I looked (2-3 years)... in the end I could not justify it for my stable. I think that is why there are SO many for sale when it is a very very limited production bike. I would be proud to own one at say... $6500-$7500, that is where it belongs in my book. Let us know how it goes

They are real good looking, that rear arm is amazing in my mind.

I have been in the process of ordering a Atom so this might get put in the back of my mind for a while until I can get that sorted out.

All about working hard, and for long hours, and doing the crap jobs to get ahead. I have one full time job and own my own side biz. 14 hour days rock. So I use the toys to relax.

I need to update the sig, there are a few more cars in the garage now.
