Default painted my wheels..whatcha think and what i did..

before

after..

in motion..

i sanded the wheels inside and out usisng 400 grit wet/dry..then used 3 coatsgloss black Duplicolor Acrylic Enamel w/2 coats of clear coat. ididnt clear coat the inside of the wheels but i painted them the same as the fronts.

i did it just as a test of my painting skiilz b4 i tackled my mr7's..but i actually LIKE how it looks.
opinions?

i know im leaving myself open to get flamed..but i dont think it looks half bad..alot better than i thought it was gonna turn out.

No, those are alloys that are meant to look like hubcaps. Go figure.
The glossy black looks pretty good. Not bad for a test.

sitting on the same ugly alloys myself. I was thinking about painting them once... but then I decided not to. seeing yours; I'm glad I decided to just look for some prelude wheels.

other than that, you did a good job.

well.. i tried and tried to get some 7 spokes from the 94-95 ex..but i could never get my hands on any that were cheap enough (poor white boy). thus why i reluctantly stuck w/these for the time being. i figured theyd look aweful.

but something i thought abotu last night.. i fi had got the 7 spokes and painted them black.. i dont think theyd look as good in black . reason being, is w/the spokes, you can see through the gaps in the spokes so you can see the road on the other side.
w/the design of these wheels, however, you cant really see the road through the wheels..so it looks blacker than the 7 spokes would.

i didnt explain that very well but i think you can get the idea of what i'm sayin. but i do think however, un painted, the 7 spokes own the wheels i have now.

thanks for the info and maybe i inspired someone to do the same to there wheels.

it dont look half bad, but considering not much else has been done to your exterior.... i would have left 'em stock until you could afford rims, or maybe some other exterior enchancements.....

the blacked out rims look better with tints IMO, a nice dark blackish tint. otherwise it just takes away from the appearance.... but hey ure satisfied and that's all that matters.....

becauase the more metal that is on the wheel, the stronger the wheel is....and the average 30 year old mother of 2 doesnt really want an 18" wheel with gunmetal 5 spokes, and a polished 5" lip

Mac, I've never had an issue with anything you've posted. But this?? Seriously? And almost everyone here is condoning the painting of stock wheels? At times it seems that everyone one on this forum contradicts themselves. I've seen someone flame one person's ride because they altered the stock appearance, then they compliment a similar car for spray painting stock parts, all in the same post.

For a car with smoked lenses, dark wheels might compliment the looks. For cleared lenses... not so much. That's only opinion though.

I guess I'm just appalled that with all the 'anti-rice' motives in this forum, someone is commended on painting their stock wheels. I can't say anything against stock steelies, since I know money doesn't grow on trees, but why do such a thing to stock wheels?

I apologize if I've called any of you out. Just expressing my opinion. This is the kind of thing Honda owners get burned for. I have to give it two thumbs down.

"rice" is so many things to so many diff pple. to me, its a big wing(discount auto wings and other non-functional wings),big muffler, maybe even a roof scoop..things that really have no function. or slapping NOS stickers or Mugen,Nismo,HKS or whatever you want pple to THINK you have (that you really dont)..thats rice to me. but to others its clear lights,neon,stickers..whatever.

body kits are usually non-functional..plus, my wife would rip off the front within a week and i'd hate to have to kill her...so no body kits..no wings ( though I am lookin for a stock wing ) no hood scoops..

what i did was functional. i had big, heavy wheels that adversly affected performance AND gas mileage..the latter being the most important to me. so, i figured why not experiment (and practice) and see how this would turn out since i had never seen anybody paint the stock 12 spokes. and.. well, you see the end results.

also i thought i'd post so others could see how it looked because like you said.. money doesnt grow on trees, so they have to work w/what theyve got. these are temp untill i get more flow rollin in and i get my MR7's painted and back on.

I got you man. I appreciate the before and after theme, that's what H-T is all about, and I very much agree with you on the big wings, mufflers, scoops, sticker and things. I just don't understand paint on stock wheels. Really any wheels for that matter, unless it's a powder coat.

thanks for the respect..right back atcha.

cost man..cost.

i think i have $20.00 in all for the paint, clear coat and sand paper and about 6 hours of work.. thats the advantage over powder coating, which is $45.00 a wheel the closest place that will do it. and really, i dont want my wheels black bad enough to fork over that much dough if they chip or scratch..a lil sandpaper,a lil tape,a lil more paint.

heres a close up of my handy work..

and remember dude..pple do crap all the time that i dont understand.. i saw a guy have a giant aluminum wing on the ROOF of his truck..another guy had one made out of cardboard that was on the back bumper of his truck that had no bed on it...

its whatever makes you happy.

I dunno. I have the same wheels, and personally I would have left them stock. Besides, in the sun it kinda looks like deck stain

Then again, I know a toolbag who painted a mid-80s prelude that hardly ran orange (with orange spraypaint), and took a confederate-flag sheet and attached it to his roof. Then he painted the numbers on the side of his car with spraypaint. He said it was just for the hell of it, but I really think he got off on it. Either way, it looked ugly as sin.

I just painted my stock EX wheels flat black, and took the center caps off on my Jet Black 95 EX. It looks pretty bad ***. I might still buy my Rota Circuit 8's, but for now, the stock flat blacks look pretty nice. I'll try to get some pics posted so you guys can let me know what you think.

As for the wheels you painted, I think they look ok but I would have gone with a little lighter black, like maybe a gunmetal or something that doesn't shine blackness. It looks pretty nice, but I would have gone a little lighter, especially on a silver car.
