Default Spark Plug On A 98 Different from the 2000?

So i go to baxters they tell me buy NGK laser Cut Platinums Then i goto acura the dude at parts counter tells me That My Ingnition system is different and not designed for the platinum plugs like the 2000. To be honest He stumbled and sounded like a complete idiot I think this moron is just Trying to BS me into buying parts with his lack of knolege in the area. All he knows is what the book says and I beleive that spec is a diff plug than the 00

Can anyone fill me in on the actual diff
Can I just put platnum plugs in and say F him

"ignition system not designed to run platnum..." haaaahhh, what a joke. lets hope he was joking. you can run whatever plug you want. just make sure it's the same heat range(ie, 5 series, 6 series, 7 series... etc.)
