Blue Smoke piling out of my exhaust!
Hey everyone I have a 94 boosted gsr hatch. My motor has about 100k on it, and it never smoke before I boosted it, now it's been about a month since I've been boosted, running 8psi, and it's smokes blue everywhere I go, it just piles out at idle. I have a side exit exhaust so I get the wrath of the smoke. Just wondering, some people are saying that it's my ring lands, and some say it's my turbo seals, anyone have any ideas? I'm also throwing a map, tps, knock sensor, o2 sensor, and fuel supply system codes if that helps any. I go through about a quart of oil every other day so that's how I know it's just oil burning. I'm running pretty rich, have stock injectors richened by a S-AFC, any suggestions would be appreciated.
start with a cylinder leakage test. if it checks out look at the turbo seals. if it is over 100k, and you have been easy on it, i wouldnt be surprised if the rings were letting some oil by.
well you might want to check those codes out first and see about replacing the map sensor,o2 sensor since you say your running rich. as for the blue smoke, and burning oil, yeah, you may want to check your turbo seal, and your ringlands, because blue smoke from exhaust and adding a quart of oil every 2 days may indicate that your piston rings may be gone. sorry. good luck though
Well, I felt inside of my turbo, and it is covered in oil, that of course is the seal for the turbo leaking...and as for the the cylinder leakage test...is that a compression test you mean? If so, what should the numbers be? I already have some arias pisons, and eagle rods to replace my stocks, but I don't want to take the time to do it unless I really need to right now. Anyway thanks for the advice, I'll check those codes and replace the seal in my turbo and hope for the best.
nah compression and cylinder leakage are 2 different things. the numbers you should look for is less than 10% some people call it a cylinder differential pressure. the tool puts a metered ammount of air in the cylinder. with the piston at TDC, you listed for a leak if there is more than 10%. if it is rings, you hear it leak out the oil fill or the dip tube. if it is intake valve you hear it in the intake manifold. if it is exh, you hear it out the back. if it is cooling system, you see bubbles inthe radiator.

Is your turbo new or used?
You may want to get those seals replaced, and if that doesn't fix it put in your new pistons/rods.
Also work on trouble shooting those other problems. The O2 failure may be due to the amount of oil present in the exhaust. It may be messing up your O2, if it isn't toast already.
