Default Transmission removal for clutch install, remove axels or leave?

Last time i dropped the transmission, i removed the axels and such which was a bitch, is it possible to drop the transmission without removing the axels? I ask so if i can't, i don't have to manhandle a transmission while trying to remove axels. Sorry for a novice question, i'm just learning FWD.

you have to remove the axles from the tranny but you don't have to take them out completely... someone said you can swing the whole knockle assembly so the axles come out

btw, here's a nice howto: http://www.honda-acura.net/for...39802

all you do is take the lower controll arm bolt off.. undo the axle nut 32mm socket...get under the car with a flathead screwdriver.. stick inbetween the axle cup and tranny pry it out.. then pull it out and pull it through until the tranny side of the cup hits the suspension fork.. thats how i do it.. its easy

yep, just disconnect the lower arm joint with a hammer to it. lift out and there you go.

I beat the **** out of the groove in that nut so it wouldn't come out, that's going to suck trying to get that nut off again. I guess i'll try doing it without removing the nut.

get yourself a ball joint removal tool... it's around 10 bucks and you won't have to beat the **** out your honda or strip threads

it makes the job much easier imo... just plug the tool, screw the bolt, and it comes out flawless

i've caused myself enough trouble already to keep from stripping threads or bending **** with my big *** hammer

when you remove the lower controll arm... dont pound on the bolt.. it will mushroom the edges.. just get the hammer.. a few good wacks on the lower controll arm and then pull up on the rotor or wheel studs and it should come up with ease.. never pound on any bolt...

i heard that ball joint seperaters were bad for honda's no???

undo both LCA's, slide the axles out to "hang" in the shock forks, drop tranny............

My best time for a tranny swap is 1:45 without a lift, but using air tools.

Yes, I can do a tranny swap blindfolded.

My hub assembly wouldn't come out (lower ball joint was stuck), i was able to get the axels out by removing the upper ball joint however and swinging the assembly around, i left the driver's side partially in and dropped the tranny, then kicked it a few times to get that axel out.

I never hit the LCA to get it out. Takes to much time and could rip the balljoint. What you could do better is get your jack, raise the hub and then stick a 1/2inch wratchet in between the hub and LCA (theres an area for it). When the hub drops make sure the wratchet is in there good. Get up and kick down on your disc and pop! Its out.

Trannys arent hard to do if you have another person. Hardest part is to put it back, unless you got money and went out and got a tranny jack.

Note to self next time: Remove axels completely. I not only had to **** around with working around them, but after i got the tranny back in, i couldn't get the axels to go. On top of that, i fucked up the teeth on my clutch trying to force it aligned with the driver's side axel pushing against me.
