Default Q: eBay high-flow cat - Bad Idea?

My inspection is due soon, right now I'm running 2.5" cat-less exhaust and won't pass the visual. Do any PA drivers know if we need to pass an emissions test or is it all visual? Anyway... I want the cheapest way out of this and the eBay has some cheap ($30-50) high-flow cats. Are these trash or is the difference from a name brand little to none? Also, should I just have a place like Meineke or Monro Muffler install it (some cutting/welding required), or will they do a shitty job? It's a fairly small task I don't see how they could mess up.. but yeah any input is appreciated.

Just make sure you're not getting a testpipe. I just bought a 2.5" Magnaflow hi-flow cat off of ebay for $104 shipped, if you want I can find the seller for you.

they are not really cats..they are resonators. it will work fine, untill the insides break and come out; but it will work for a while.

So you're basically saying somewhere along the line it will fall apart?

I'm guessing you're not planning on taking it off after the inspection due to the fact that you are worrying about it falling apart, right? Just thought I'd bring the obvious to you attention that you can just take it right back off, in case you hadn't already thought about it lol.

Noobie question here: I knew there was a difference between the two, but what is the difference? Dictionary.com says: "A hollow chamber or cavity with dimensions chosen to permit internal resonant oscillation of electromagnetic or acoustical waves of specific frequencies." Does this make it just like a smaller muffler or what?
