Default problem with the new engine

this has happened a few times to me now. If I really get on the gas for a little bit (say through 1-3rd gear at WOT) then let off, my engine stalls out and dies. I can restart the engine, but I HAVE to give it has in order to get it to turn over and start up and whgen it does I get a **** idle. The same lumpy, undrivable in traffic idle you get with a dead IACV or what not. I also get a CEL.

Now, if I leave the engine off for about 5 minutes then crank it over, it starts up and idles like nothing ever happebed and the CEL goes away (this is why I havent been able to pull the code yet).

I have had a full tank of gas when it happened, my ground wires are all okay, its a brand new battery/alternator.

The block is a brand new B18C5 the head is from a B16A2 which has been milled a little .030. Im also running a 2 layer spoon head gasket, skunk 2 stage 2 cams, I/H/E and a test pipe. And yes, I have had it all dyno tuned by bubba over at do it dyno. Its all being run through a P06 ECU modified to run Crome, and is hooked up via an OBDII to OBDI harness. Im also using a 190lph in tank fuel pump, B&M FPR and RC 370 injectors. All brand new parts BTW.

Now this as just started happeneing recently and doesnt do it every time I get on the gas hard. Iver had this engine setup for 2 months and this started up maybe 3-4 days ago and has happened aourt 3 times so far. Twice on the street and once on the freeway, and its been both hot and really cool out, so its not a tempature thing.

The specific details on ALL my modifications are located in my signature and profile.
if anyone has any ideas as to what may be causing this please let me hear them!

i had the same lumpy, crapy idle and the engine revs dropped really low to the point of wanting to die before on a turbocharged b18b. turned out to be a faulty map sensor acting up when the boost came in.

see if you can jump the 2 pin connector for the code and just leave it on until it happens. once it happens the cel will just flash you the code right away. good luck!

funny you should ask. I expected it to be a plug and me running rich. The plug would have been soaked at WOT and when i let off it wouldnt fire and die. After a while it would dry and work like normal again. So I changed out the plugs, and I still had the problem.. THEN (I know Im a dumbas) I checked out my FP gauge. it said I was running 38PSI meaning it backed off ~2PSI from when I had the car tuned. I bumped the FPR back up to 40PSI and gave it a hard couple of runs for a few miles. So far it hasnt been acting up (knocks on wood).

Anyone care to guess why the hell it was doing this? I wouldnt have thought 2PSI would have made that much of a difference.

isn't there a diaphram in the fpr to hold pressure? maybe the diaphram inside is going bad and not being able to keep the pressure. maybe thats why you LOST 2PSI......good luck bro

Yea, my car on my allmotor itr program barley runs without leaning out my vafc, but the minute i start to lean it out at idle its starts to run better, on my wideband, with my fuel pressure on 40psi with the hose on, and no vafc tuning my wideband says im running 10:1 a/f, thats pretty rich!

Try tuning you fuel if you havent already.

I thought I had. Upping the FPR to 42PAI ALMOST solved the problem. Ive gotten on it a few times since then and its died on me ONCE which is muh better then before.

Now Im guessing perhaps I need to change my fuel filter? If it was cloged then upping the FPR would solve this somewhat, which i exactly what happened. what do you guys think?
