I had a couple questions with a swap to a GSR from an LS. I was talking to a mechanic and was going to do the swap for me, and he siad that he needed to know if the tranny is the exact same for the LS as it is the GSR.And if it's not what do I have to do for that? And he said something about the wiring harness has to be the same, is this true?And what if it isnt the same, What do I do about that? And he said something about the computer having to be the same. As you can see I dont know much, so if you oculd help me out that would be great.

 

harness is same...you will need to add a couple wires. ecu differant..you'll need the GSR ecu, Trannies are interchangeable.....although the LS has longer ratios.

 

The transmission is not the same. But there should be no problems using a GSR transmission unless your car is a pre-1994 model, in which case you need to deal with the cable to hydraulic conversion. As far as the harness, there will be some work needed here. If the car is a pre-1992, the ECU plugs will need to be converted to use the 1994-1995 ECU (you don't want to halfass it by using some 1988-1991 ECU to run the motor). And some extra wires will need to be added and plugs changed under the hood. If your car is a 1992+ model, all you will need to do is add some wires.
