Default EP3 motor tune - NO turbo, budget $5000

Hi guys, I'm really sorry to ask such stupid question, but one of my friends has the Civic Type-R and he wants to do some upgrades. He doesn't want to super or turbocharge his car, but is willing to do stage3 upgrades.

The problem is I'm finding rather difficult to find Cams, valve springs, lightweight-flywheel and other stuff for the K20 engine

can anyone recommend me where to start at ?

dont waist your time keeping it N/A dude. A small turbo or SC will be just as realiable as N/A, and cost a BUCKET less. N/A is very expensive and the gains just arent there compared to forced induction.

Toda Racing is a good place to start ... I've seen good gains with their products on the B and K series motors ... they have everything from cams, valve springs, exhaust manifolds ... etc ... Their parts are expensive but worth it.

As far as the budget thing goes ... you won't get much increase in power for $5K when you go all motor ... parts + tuning gets expensive fast.

I'd say, since he's got a R, to go with a SC since that motor already has good power and it's a higher compression you could get more reliabilty and decent gains from it.

Honestly guys, Toda is overrated. Try the IPS cams, http://www.intrinsicperformance.com. Hondata K-Pro(www.hondata.com) is an excellent upgrade to the stock ECU. As far as valve springs and valvetrain there are several companies on the market for the K-series, IMO Crower is among the best(www.crower.com). For flywheels and other tranmission items I'd recommend Exedy(www.daikin-clutch.com). When you say no turbo, are you excluding supercharging as well? IMHO if the parts are chosen well(with a lot of tuning) on an all motor setup your friend can see almost(if not over) 300whp. Have you friend check out http://www.k20a.org, we have a lot of people running some insane all-motor setups on there.

Thanx guys for answers.. well I told him SC is probably the fastest and cheap sulution, but he wants to keep his car NA - cus Honda built it this way. Anyway I'm really glad I finally found some Cams and lightened flywheel - with your help.

Will keep you informed how the car tuneup continues.

In 2 weeks I'm putting a small IHI turbo to my '91 CIVIC Si... my first turbo-project !!! wish me good luck with TurboEdit to meet the 450cc DSM inj.
