HELP!!! kyokugen locks trouble
my key is stripped... how am i gonna take them off? anyone want to rent a KEY to me? i live in arkansas... NOBODY has any here!!!! please help!
simple, buy another set of kyokugen lugs.
I had to get a socket (15mm, I think) and hammer the **** out of it onto the locks to get them all off (took about 2 hours worth of hammering, not to mention destroying the socket)
Have fun....that's why I hate these lug nuts
i know this doesnt help too much, and i know youre frustrated right now...but these lugs do suck...ive gone through three sets...i had to have them removed at a tire shop which cost me $40 bucks, i didnt feel like destroying my good tools, and i didnt have the patience it requires...after you get them removed...spend a few bucks and get some good lugs...kyogugens suck!
YEP... agree. they sucked.
I never experienced it.. but S&M racing said they're just too much pain...
so I get the Rays lugs instead.. cost more than my cheap rotas.. heHe

change em .. get another set, ill tell you how to fix your messed up key, if you look inside, you can see that theres still some meat left inside, the part you stripped was pretty much on the outer edge of the key, cut the KEY PORTION * not the whoel thing .. if you look inside you can imagine how far the KEY shaped part goes in) cut it in half and you can use it to take off yoru exisitin lugs. HTH, its just somethign i did when i coudlnt get another key.
These lugs are POS's. I had them seize onto my studs with only 80lbs of torque on them. Plus, they are 7 sided, so no standard sockets will work. I ended up hammering a 12 pt socket over them and blasting away with impact gun. I still didn't get them off and had to take them to a wheel shop to have them chiseled off.
BTW...a new key won't help, it will expand/strip after the first lug nut you try to break loose. And on a side note, I bought mine from Inlinefour.com and they said they were great lug nuts and never had any problems when I tried to return mine.

it would help to put some oil before you torque them down

I jsut want some nice open end lug nuts....
Locking or not means nothing. THey just need to keep from stripping and galling.

i' ve had my kyokugen lugnuts for 1 year and still no problems(knock on wood). you just have to torque them down to proper specs and you should be all good.
my friend had the same problem, his wrench stripped. He called me up, I busted out my Gator Grip, and got all of the lugs off no problem.

Mostly people do not read the instructions on the box and torque them too much.
YEP... agree. they sucked.
They do not suck.. You just have to know how to use them PROPERLY.

You wouldn't hate them if you had read the instructions, and FOLLOWED them.

GODDAMM!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
I can't tell you how many times I hear people complain about how "KyoKugen lugs suck" blahbalahblahblah.....
When I ask them how they installed the lugs, they say "I dunno, I took it to xxxxx's tire shop, and they put them on"
Well DUH, it only says on the package 80-112 NM (neuton meters) which = 60-80 ft/lbs.
Sorry, but you own a high performance car, and you spend all this and that money on headers, cams, cam gears, etc....
Do you just use a impact wrench to install those cams? Or header? Or whatever? and not check torque specs?
NO! You don't.
Do you not pre-lube those cams when you install them?
NO! You don't.
So why do you think LUGNUTS are any different????
I bought a set of KyoKugens when they were just getting sold here in the US, and I still have the same key and lugs.
Antisieze compounded the studs, and torqued them to 80ft/lbs.
Still working fine, never have come loose, or cross threaded, or stripped out.
So stop talking smack when the only problem is the loose nut behind the steering wheel.
Congradulations! You found the only use for those stupid gator grip things.
