99-00 civic auto to manual swap
some pics but going to be a very long post, 2 parts tonight and whenever next.
ok lets begin its 12:15 sunday night in philly right now and again i cant sleep so seen how i just got done a auto to manual swap on my g/f's 99 ex i thought i share a write up with h-t.
now 1st off there i always this, everything in here i did at my own will what you do is at your own will so i do not take respon blah blah blah what it comes down to, read it if you want but dont blame me.
2nd i would like to give props to luserkid i got alot of info from his write up, this is my point of view on this swap. so please note he did his on a 97 i am doing this on a 99.
PARTS
5S=5-speed
1. 92-00 civic thrans
2. 5S starter
3. 5S shift linkage and hardware
4. 5S ecu (p2p) 99-00 obd-2 (note if you want a stock ecu it has to be from a 99-00)
5. 5S pedals and hardware
6. 5S shifter with knod of choice
7. 5S intake manifold with the iacv if it didnt come with it you need to get one with a 2pin round conector (read about later)
8. 5S throtle body
9. clutch and flywheel
10. 5S mounts you will need all mounts and brackets for the trans and also the rear mount (rear mount read later)
11. clutch line, i did a custume line (read later)
12. clutch master cylinder
13. slave cylinder
if i missed anything i will go over in the write up
ok will start with the interior. for space i took my seats out and all the panels on the dash the glovebox, center console, radio console, and drivers kick panel. pedals this was some what hard what needs to be done is the auto gas and brake pedal and bracket has to come out the fit the clutch, brake and gas pedal. now some of you might say well why cant you just change the brake arm and add the clutch in? and the answer is the brake switch mounting point from auto to manaul is diff sorry its the way it has to be done. so what you have to do is take off the cables on the gas pedal, next take out the codder pin for the brake plunger the disconect the brake arm from the plunger arm and unbolt the brake arm from the braket. next unbolt the braket and twist it around the steering colum and remove. the 5S braket looks the same and it mounts the same so just do reverse to install. dont forget to hook the brake switch back up.
next the clutch pedal to mount this you need the clutch master cylinder and line so i will talk about all of them now. good thing for us honda made all the bodies the same so there is no cutting required for the CMC. so this i what you have to do, if you look down next to the fender right on the fire wall on the drivers side you will see 3 holes with black plastic covers on them 2 small i big that is where the CMC mounts so you need two people for this one inside the cabin one in the engine bay holding the CMC. fish it through the holes and hook it up in the cabin at two mounting points on each side of the pedal braket that is all that is need for the CMC to be mounted but not the pedal there is one more place on top of the braket, lay on your back under the dash and look straight up and you will see it. next connect the CMC plunger to the clutch pedal arm. next comes the line i used 1 line it was a -3 stainless steel line and the fittings on it where male concave fittings m-10x100 threads 6 feet long. if you need a better explaination of that pm me.
ok now its time for the center console. when you remove the center console you will see the auto shifter and 1 shifter cable that goes into the engine bay and goes in to the bottom of you trans. that cable will have to be removed 1st. to do so you have to remove the exhaust mid pipe from under your car and also the heat sheild but dont get rid of the shield you will have to use that later. get under the car and unbolt the plate that fits over the cable at the trans. then unhook the cable from the trans, next you have to go into the cabin and unhook the cable from the auto shifter so you can snake the cable out. now for the shifter it self. it gets mounted by 4 bolts 1 at each corner but they screw in from the bottom of the car once you have done that the shifter should come right out. once you get it out of the car you will see a white rectangle box that is mounted to the side with a 14pin plug connected to it. its called the auto shifter selector, that has to unbolt from the shifter and the plug needs to be cut off of it but leave yourself enough wire cause you still need this plug for later use when i talk about the wiring. now for some of you that are saying wow thats it for the shifter just unbolt the auto one and bolt up the 5speed one that easy, NOT. wait theres more next part requires alittle cuting. when you take out the auto shifter you will see a almost round hole that it sat in, and in front of that there will be a oval pocket that sits down in the tunnel and under the car well my friends that is your problem it will need to be cut off so the shifter rods will be able to be mounted under the car in the tunnel without anything blocking them. now when you do this it will create a problem for you, it will leave a nice size hole in your floor. so this is where we come back to the heat sheild. bend the heat shield untill its flat and cut a piece off the will fit over the oval hole and mount it how ever you choose. i just run some self tapping screws around the sides and corners worked like a charm. now for the other hole that is where the 5S shifter will come through but we cant mount it yet untill we get the trans in. so i will come back to this.
now its time for the fun part but not now later.
