Dropped gas tank for Walboro Fuel Pump today!
Well I was a bit nervous... lots of people seem to say it's a pain. It's definitely a pain, but not the worse thing I've done. It's a little difficult to slip the hoses back on when putting the tank back in.
I did a super OEM spec job on the wiring. No butt connectors. I crimped on ring terminals and used the OEM terminal covers. Maybe I can get a pic up.
Total time was 4.5 hours from start to finish. Included draining a full tank + refilling it.

When I did the tank, it wasnt neer as bad as I thought it would be eathier. The tank weight around 30lbs (give or take 10) with 2-3 gallons left in it when I did my fuel pump swap... I used one out of a VR-4.... drops right in...
Empty, the tank is very light. Maybe 20 lbs or so? but it's kinda big/unwieldy.
Draining the tank is a mess. If you have a floor jack to hold up the tank, I think it might be better to drain it once it's out (but make sure it's pretty low)

unless you cut a 12"x12" big square out in the back in side the car above the tank. put hinges on the piece you cut out and rubber seal and now you have a weather resistant door for easy access to the fuel pump. lol because dropping the tank is BS without a hydrolic lift. well its BS either way. who wants to spend 2-4.5 hours dropping a tank for a $100 part.
its like taking off the intake manifold off the car when you need to put on a hondata heatsheild. its not worth the time unless the motor is out of the bay or your upgrading to a better IM.

Tell me about it. I thought I was going turbo so I installed a 255 pump only to take it out a week later to put in a 190 pump. I just left the pump mount connected to the hard gas lines and worked around it, took about a hour the second time.
I heard you don't have to drop the tank all the way down. With that, would you access it from the back of the tank or the front?
you dont have to drop the whole thing down, your right because i didnt have to, but its still a pain. you have to drop the side that is towards the rear of the car. and the pump is located next to the driverside rear.
i say cutting wheel/dremel cut a door out and get some hinges so when you need to replace/troubleshoot/upgrade it'll be easier.
