If your rpm's are jumping, but it's just the gauge thats jumping and not the actual rpm's, then i'd look into your VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)

It may be loose. It should be on the top of the tranny.

I have the same problem. If I rev over 5500 rpm then the tach starts jumping randomly, it's not the actual engine erraticaly revving, but the tach jumps all over the place. But then it randomly goes back to normal after like 15 minutes or so.

I had a similar problem and it seemed to be that my positive battery terminal was was too close to the firewall and I was arcing ocassionally causing intermittent rpm jumping. The plastic red cover wasn't fully covered so I would arc.

Or maybe your ignitor is going bad. Do a search on igntors to possibly find your answer.

Good luck!

mad vtak powah!!!!!!1111oneoneoneone

seriously though, check your distributor/cap/rotor/plugs/plug wires first. ignitor could be bad, coil could be bad, but check the cap and rotor first

i'm tellin you, check your VSS.....i bet it's loose, you may be able to get away with just pushing it and tightening it up a bit. I was able to when this happened on my EG.

Most of the time when that happens it means you have a faulty ICM(ignitor). I would seriously look into that first.
