It was my timing belt cover that was warped and rubbing on my timing belt which caused it to shred up
can i just take the cover off and run my car like that? Or is that not good?

I consider that "not good". If a rock or something gets kicked up into the belt it can knock it out of time.

I've been running my B18C without the lower cover for a little over a year now. I just line up the actual sprocket or "tooth" on the crank gear with the TDC mark on my block.

yeah you can fo that too, but i think its harder because its harder to see, and how do you line up the tooth on the crank gear if the pulley is on?

well my lower timing cover is getting ate up by the belts from the alternator.. its like chewing straight threw the cover... and pushing the cover against the pulleys and timing belt
thats what caused it to shred
whats the chance of a rock actually shooting up into a pulley? Slim to none right?

You can still see the teeth on the gear even with the pulley and belt on. I found out that the TDC marking on my pulley lines up perfectly with the center of one of the teeth. I line up the center of that tooth with the TDC marking on the block.

keep both timing covers on for safety; this part of the car causes enough problems inherently without exposing it to the possibility of rocks, water, salt, etc. getting into the mix.
