Keyless/Security vs Electronic Ignition with immobilizer
I am looking at buying a 2002 honda and it has the std. electronic ignition with the immobilizer system. I told the dealer I wanted a keyless/security system and he said that wasn't a problem, that they could go to the honda dealer and just buy a remote for it. Is the system already installed or will they have to install a system? I am thinking they will have to install it, which would be good to know before we finalize the deal.
Does the immobilizer tie into the security system? Guess I am not sure what the immobilizer really does....
Thanks...

What trim level is the vehicle? If it's an EX or Si or SE or LX, chances are it originally came with keyless (with remotes) but they've since been lost.
But to answer your question, the immobilizer doesn't really tie into the security system. It's its own "security system" by not allowing the starter to crank and/or preventing the ignition/fuel system from functioning if it doesn't receive the proper coded signal from the transponder in the head of the key.

It is the LX model....I went to the Honda website and looked back at the 2002's, and the keyless/security is listed as "accessory", like the matts. So not sure if you just have to buy a remote or have a system installed.
