hello iam knew here so i hope iam doing this right.. i have a 89 civic and i wanna pull the motor out is there a site that can give me a walk thru on how to do so? and would it be better to rebuild the motor that's in the car now or just do a swap? this car is a long term project due to cash flow.

just use the search function at the upper right hand corner. Search the archives for "remove engine" or "engine removal"

Just disconnect everything, I recommend draining the transmission fluid, as it will spill a little when you tilt it with no axles in.

There's a spot on the transmission for a rope or chain to go under, near the mount plate near the passengers side mount, and I usually wrap the other side of it to the drivers side engine mount. Lift the drivers' side of the engine about 4-6 inches higher than the tranny side, because its kinda weird how it likes to come out, and yea just pull.

p.s. swaps are so cheap I would just buy a new engine. For $500 you can get a ZC from Hmotors, plus about $100 for shipping. I got my complete engine tranny axles halfshaft package minus the ECU for $974 shipped.

http://www.hmotorsonline.com

The distributor I got was bad, and no questions asked I sent it back and he sent me a new one, plugged it right in and the car started. Engine was super clean when it got here, and everything was packaged well.

Hmotors = good price and excellent service.

The way i did it was: unbolt the cradle, shocks, upper control arms, steering column, motor mounts, disconnect the radiator, brake lines, exhaust, fuel lines, and the wiring harness and lift body right off the cradle like this
