ok let me try to explain what i am talking about, you know how you put the screwdriver in the number one cylinder and when it pushes the screwdriver all the way up to TDC? well when it is there the crank is still a couple of teeth off. when i put the crank where it says it should be it was lowered the screwdriver. i was talkin about my car that is in my sig. every honda i have every had if it is a tooth off or two it will still run but just like ****. you get what i am saying now?

i dont see why all the hate was put on DX he tried more than anyone in this thread to help you...

if your car ran before you took the belt etc off, then most likely your timing is off, your saying the cams is a tooth off, your saying your crank is a couple teeth off, take the belt off, take the valve cover off, stick 2 screw drivers in the holes to lock the cams align them, then align the crank, if its a tooth off, then take it back off and do it again... also make sure your plugs are on your dizzy correctly ive seen people get them all swithced up, usually causing backfire out of the intake etc. but its definatly somehting to check, explain to us a little more, about what it sounds like while its trying to turn over...

i am not tryin to be a dick to him it just telling me to do the same thing i have already done. it didnt run when i bought it. it had a blown headgasket. i have the crank set at TDC but the actuall mark on the crank pully says its off but when i the crank on the mark the screwdriver goes down so there for its not at TDC. when i try to crank it it trys to turn over but it just wont catch. i have compression, spark and fuel but just wont start. i have check the firing order. done the timing, and also set the dizzy how the book says.

ok, it wouldnt crank when you bought it with a blown head gasket? it has to have something more wrong with it, because no matter how blow the head gasket was the car should crank... so:

are you sure your reading the TDC mark and not one of the advancement marks, i saw you said that once you have the crank on tdc the number 1 piston is NOT all the way up, which mark are you usuing for TDC...

now that you have said it wont crank AND wouldnt crank when you got it, it leads me to believe there was more to it than a head gasket, check your relay and clutch saftey switch

also for right now, dont worry about your number one piston, if your cars timing belt is OK, then you should be timing it by the teeth and marks, the screw driver/#1piston is just a trick for people who need to find tdc once everything is apart. or for people who didnt put it at tdc, before they started tearing it down

Couple things, a few have already been said.

The engine will start and run if you are off a tooth in either way.
If you had the head or deck machined then this might account for the timing be be slightly off. Or if you used a new metal head gasket. but either way its not gonna keep it from starting.

Anyways, I've heard of people puting their distributer on 180 degrees off. Its pretty hard to do since it should only go in one way but I would look at that.

Even more simple, do you hear the fuel pump prime when you first turn the key?
