Racing Schools. who has been where and what did you think?
Skip Barber Racing School - The best Racing School in the World. No other school comes even close. My son, Robbie Montinola, attend the first 3 day Racing School at Laguna Seca in August 2000 and has improved greatly since then. He is the current points leader in the Western Region CART Formula Dodge Championship and a favorite to win the 2002 CART Formula Dodge National Championship presented by RACER.

I did Skippy at Lime Rock too. I really enjoyed it, and don't regret it for a moment. The one thing it lacked though was wheel to wheel training, and I think Bonderaunt does have that. I did the program as the 5 day school, which included a "car contol clinic" and a Formula Dodge lapping day. I would recommend just doing the 3 day. I don't think those other two events are worth the extra money.

thanks guys for the replies. i called skip barber and requested a catalog. now i have to decide what track to go to!!!!
I agree with all the other comments on Skip Barber's school. I did the one at Road America (3-day racing school) and it was great. You may learn less about some of the track ettiquette, etc. that SCCA tends to focus on, but if you want to learn how to drive a race car to its limit Skip Barber is the one to go to.
Two suggestions if you go:
1-read his book "Going Faster" BEFORE you go. Everything will make more sense when they teach you, and you'll say, "Oh, just like in the book". This will give you a heads up on the other less prepared students.
2-Listen to the instructors. Don;t be afraid to ask questions, but listen to them and do what they say. They will have you work on line and application points first and speed you up as you go along; don't try to work on speed before you got the other things down. Listen listen listen!

I did the 3-day Skip school at LRP. In some instances, I had a little bit of a hard time nailing 1 turn, but figured it out after seeing it properly demonstrated by another student. I thought doing a little lead follow for a session would help to let a student see how something is done properly, but other than that, I got a lot out of it. If memory serves, you have to do the 3-day school + 2 advanced activities (ie, lapping day+ car control clinic) to get your regional Comp License through them.
