Default f23 vtec head on an f22 non-vtec block???

Like the title says, I know this is possible well cuz f=f but what I want to know, is it like doing a simple mini-me on a d-series, or is it more compliacted like the ls/vtec on a b-series.. is it even worth it?? how much more power will the vtec head give me? I plan on turboing, but I was thinking of just swapping a vtec head before. thanks!! oh and this is for my 4th gen. lude

I'm not sure, but you may not even have to remove the head. At least on the F23 head I looked at, it could be converted to sohc vtec just by changing out the cam and rocker assembly. I think there are a couple different kinds of F-series head castings though. As for whether or not it's worth it... I guess you could look at the factory power specs for those engines. I've never seen much development done with them though, so you are kinda on your own I think. The accord forums may have some info for you.

Look at my F22B1 head swap thread from like 2 years ago (if you search by my name its in the Accord section). It was worth 15-20hp for about 250 bucks or so worth of parts. I thought it was worth it. It's very similar to a D series mini-me, you remove the same oil restrictor and all.

Oddly I have a F22B1 in my 4th gen Prelude right now...

If you're gonna swap the head you should put a H22 one.
Might need more mods but there'll also be more choice for performance parts for this head than F23 one.

you realize how difficult it is to put an h head on an f block, you have to have a deck plated block, and there is other **** that i dont want to deal with. this isnt a race car, i just want some extra power...it would cost more to swap an h head than the entire engine for an h...

Deck plate? Um i don't think so. You're making it more comlicated than it is...

Simple head swap, nothing fancy, just wanted more torque for cheap:

More complicated VTEC head swap good for more power:

H/F hybrid turbo project:

basically, if you dig around and find parts cheap it is pretty easy to make power on a budget. In my opinion if you go through all the effort of swapping heads and tuning I would go with a better head...

hmmm...I was informed that to run an h head on an f block, that you would have to be deckplated...

edit: these seem a little more complicated for me, they are not as simple as doing a d-series mini-me...that is what I am looking for, I guess thats why I wanted to get the f23 vtec head and slap it on my f22 non-vtec block, something that will give me a little high redline, b/c with my h22 tranny in my prelude right now, I hit redline so damn fast...

I run an P28, and I have a (NA) ROM that I did on a Dynojet and share with anyone. 140hp/140tq with a CAI and a generic 4-2-1 header ... which I guess people can laugh about all they want.

Not sure why people rag on the B1 head so hard? The motors stock are 8.8:1, so I don't expect too much out of it NA. Also, considering most people literally give away these motors/heads it's better than the alternative (nothing). The last H22 head I sold on eBay went for like $380.00 w/o a valve cover, screw that noise. I do have a couple H23 heads in the basement, but I havn't felt the need to throw one on.

SOHC isn't so bad anyway, if you know what you're doing. Look to all the Ford and Chrysler stuff for inspiration and data. I guess I'm just a little more open-minded than the average Honda owner at times.

F22B1 = 94-97 Accord EX btw.
