What do you mean by "not much?" How often do you drive it?

Yes, you still would need to change the oil ever 3 months. Over time the oil will break down if it is used or not.

Anyone want to confirm that?

Depends on the oil.

If you ask me, a 3 month/900 mile change is absurdly short.

oil doesnt need to be changed that often unless you always mash on your car. my car hasnt had an oil change for 4 months but i only drove it for like 1500 miles... last car i owned crx with ls swap i didnt change the oil for six months and i drove it hella lot

I dont know, thats like paying $5 a qt for synthetic and changing it every 3k. Chances are that Castrol Syntec you (generally speaking) just bought will remain stable for over 7k.

In other words, changing it at 3k is like pouring your money down the drain.

Im all for playing it safe, but like I said, 3 months/900 miles is absurd. If your oil is breaking down that fast, youre either running a mix of crisco and canola, or somethings seriously wrong.

yeah thats kinda crazy, i mean you are driving the car somewhat regularly and its not just sitting for 3 months at a time. I'd say 6 months is a more regular time frame.

How does oil "break down" if its just sitting there in the engine when the car is off and not being driven? Wouldn't it also "break down" from just sitting in the containers on the shelf at the store?

Once a month is way too often. What type of oil do you use, mineral or synthetic? Good minerals can run up to 3-5k consistently, whereas synthetics are made to run up to 7k or more (7 is a very very very conservative #). That's it. If you're using synthetic and changing out your oil every 3 months, you're blowing loads of cash in the long run.

Have you ever looked at the recommended oil change intervals for newer cars? Ever since the car manufacturers began to foot the bill when it comes to oil changes, the "3k" figure was changed to 10-15k. They're not doing this to damage their engines, they're just doing it to save money. The 3k oil change was a money-making ploy, but since they're now paying the cash, the truth is revealed.

And if you think this is bs, go get an oil analysis done with your 3 month old oil.

It take aproximately 6 years for oil to chemicaly break down. No need to change it every 3 months. Just go by every 3000 miles. You'll be ok.

Is your car parked outside or in?

i agree. oil can get really expensive and just 900 miles is crazy... Id wait atleast about every 3k or so.

My integra isnt driven much either
I got it at 87K 7-8 months ago and now it just hit 88K, but I start it up 2 days every week for 10 mins
The car isnt driven hard at all
So I havent changed my oil for 7-8M.
What will happen if i dont change it?

Rule of thumb, whether the car sits on the garage or not, it should be changed every 3k. My bro has an M3, and thats what the dealer told him because, oil does not get dirty just sitting there in the oil pan, but it can get moisture and its not good for the motor...

I change my oil about every 6months... but I hardly ever drive my gsr.... I only fill my gas tank once a month...

3k/3months is a myth made up by the oil and lub shops
