Default balancing tire question?

i know i shouldnt have cheaped out, and they are getting balanced tommorrow.....

came out of a stand up wheelie today and set it down appearing to be straight to me..... and i have never been thrown into such a violent tank slapper in my life....... i will soon be buying a damper just the house needs a new roof, so the bike will be ridden slowly from now on....

anyway that was my eye opener today.....i powered out of it and set down smoother, but i never want that to happen again,

do you think that not balancing the tires is the reason it went bananas,.... does anybody here not balance their tires????

BTW.. bike is an 02 954 rr

tires are brand new pilot powers....

i was in 2nd gear..... what gives.....?
id love to be able to ride around on it to know if balancing matters that much, but its not worth dying to say YUP it matters.....

so what do you think??

Always balance your tires.

But, unbalanced tires would not have been the only cause of your tankslapper. Landing hard or even having the bars turned a little bit can shake up the front end. The tires may have contributed, but weren't the only factor.

Both the 929 and 954 are notorious for having a light front end and will go into a slapper very easily.

Get a damper and all will be good.

I have the scotts triple clamp mount and I would highly recommend it.

Nah,

I have owned a cbr 600 f1 aka hurricane, cbr 600f2, cbr 600f3 and a cbr 929rr.

I have modded them all quite a bit including swapping a f2 suspension on the f1.

I did a couple of f2-f3 conversions, considered a 900rr swap into my f3 before getting the ss prepped engine and having it put in.

Now I have been toying with the 929. I am now working on tuning the suspension since It is obviously not set for a 145-150 lb rider.....

I know personally that my 929 gave me some nasty headshake coming out hard from a turn when the front end got light. Also, If I remember correctly the 954 had a steering head bearing recall which caused the front to be very twitchy.

Ask me about kwak's and suzuk's and I don't know that much cause I havent wrenched on em much. Well I have worked on a few zx6r's, zx7r's, zx12r's and old gs 750, gs1000's.

I have had good luck with my honda's, and my buddies haven't been as fortunate with insert brand name here.

They may be a few hp down or a few lbs heavier but I will stick with the reliability.

My stable now:
chevy s-10 (to haul the bikes)
crx
929rr
f3
crf50f

I think you can tell what brand I am loyal to...

have a good weekend fellas.

Gotcha...and with the proper rider on the "heavier or down a few hp" bike you can keep up with anything anyway...

I havn't owned a honda....yet....Im really really really liking the yamaha though, if it stays strong for me for the next few months I might be switching to a new brand...heh...yeh have a good weekend bud.

uh you are dealing with some massive gyroscopic forces here. Pay the $15 and balance the tires.

When I changed from stock to stretch swingarm the spacers for each was different and when the orig one came apart I did not note what was where before spacers fell and scattered. Stretched arm had different spacing and when I put it together the sprockets possibly weren't aligned well enough and may have caused excessive wear to chain and teeth but the wheel tracked ok.

I haven't had a problem with the front on newer bikes, back in the day I had a 80 gs1100 and 78 gs750. 1100 had front end problems, on the 750 the front brakes locked up so much that I couldn't wait to sell it. Only kept the 750 three months.

So do you have a Calvin-pissing-on-Chevy sticker for your other vehicles???

No **** though, Steven's going to be my resource/reference if I ever get another CBR.
