Default type r exhaust on a gsr?

i want to get a higher flowing exhuast system to my 97 gsr without all the excess noise and donkey dick look. I was thinking about getting the stock type r exhaust but i heard that it won't fit on gsr's. is this true and how much do you think it will cost for it?

you will need to extend the b-pipe from the cat towards the header...or use a ITR/LS header with the exhaust....otherwise there should be no other issues

Yeah, around 250. It would be way more than that new, a price from AHMotor for a new GSR cat-back was around $315 plus shipping.

I just ordered a 'slightly used, never seen the rain, only 3000 miles on it' ITR cat-back for $260 shipped.

I highly recommend that you talk to SMSP and he should be able to help you out with getting your exhaust to fix.

$315 was for the cheaper GSR exhaust..

Look in "classifieds" on this board and do a search, limited to only that forum, recent topics only.

They're out there, and I just bought one. Unfortunately, the tip was fucked up by UPS and a lack of adequate packing material (a couple pieces of styrofoam doesn't cut it) by the shipper.

Ask for insurance and specify that the muffler tip get a heavy layer of padding.

Dremeling, patience, a good file, and blue layout fluid fixed my problem.

I payed too much for what I got when all was said and done.

Better luck to you.

I e-mailed quite a few guys on here but I was either too late or they didn't reply soon enough. I looked on http://www.thepartstrader.com and found mine.

Just keep checking the classifieds section of the boards. Check them often, good deals go fast. If you see a pretty new, low mileage, ITR cat-back for $200 plus shipping that's a pretty fair deal.

Find something local if you can.

bps: right i missed that its $315 for a GS-R exhaust! sorry to hear what happended to you in the shipment of your exhaust...it's happended to me in several cases, most recently with a DC header where its just shipped from the factory in a box with no padding,etc...so i going to take your advice and try finding one locally if i can. btw: where did you end up getting yours from and how much did it cost if i may ask?

nerd: thanks for your input...i will definitely keep my eyes open here and i think $200 is a fair price for one too.

turbothisLS: nice pic of your exhaust however, i am currently interested in checking one out in my area.

does anybody have pics of the underbody showing the full-cat back "R" exhaust on their GS-R?

thanks guys!

the search function will reveal that ALL of this info has been covered a million times. $230 +/- is the going price.

Here is it on my GSR:

quiet, and sleeper like.

just to add, this is my '97 GSR. The '00 spec (I think that was the yr they switched to the ITR header) gsr won't have to have it modded, but the older ones will need the Bpipe extended 4".
