Default My New Daily Driver - (Non-Honda Warning) : (56K=You'll Be Alright)

Well, I get tired of worrying about leaving my EJ1 around places in San Diego for more than five minutes at a time, due to the fact that everytime I read up on HT there's news of another San Diego car stolen.

I also don't like the fact that people try to "race" me on the street, and my red BR4s and my Buddy Club Spec II (JDM 4-1, Omni TP) draws so much attention to me that it gets kind of annoying. Lots of haters and random racers out there who just don't get it when I ignore them.

So I bought this car from a close relative because I've always wanted a convertible, the RWD is a nice change, it's ok-looking but still no one gives a damn about it hence they don't pay attention to me as much as when I'm in my EJ1. It's clean, newer, ABSOLUTELY QUIET, and is a welcome relief from the stiff ride in my EJ1. Also it is very, very slow (no faster than an Integra LS I guess), and hence takes very little effort to drive. I can barely even feel the clutch engage.

True, this car may still be stolen. But this is 100% stock and very easily replaceable by means of insurance. If my EJ1 were to be stolen, my insurance wouldn't cover my motor or all of the other small mods. Plus I picked it up for very little $$ because it's from family.

But I digress. Here are the (poor) pictures. Specs at bottom.

1997 BMW Z3 1.9L DOHC
140BHP
133BTQ

Gears seem relatively short, and 5th gear is good enough for passing on the freeway.

Yeah. Works out better that way I guess. It is just my daily driver after all. I'm not a Bimmer guy but I've heard that these Z3s were available with a 2.8L V6 and also an M-version which was 315BHP.

Haha I appreciate it bro. And while I'm extremely tempted to m0d this, it would be difficult given the starting motor platform. So I think I won't even tempt myself by looking at that website, lest I leave H-T and become a regular at http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/. And as for aesthetics, well I don't want it to look like an M if it can't perform like one.

Plus m0ding this one would sort of defeat the purpose of my purchasing it in the first place.

heh my boss just picked up his mid-life crisis ride last Friday a 98 Z3 w/ the 2.3L I6, which replaced the sluggish 1.9L four for 1998. He said it's quite peppy, he was doing 100mph w/o even knowing it. Of course he's used to a huge extended cab F150.

I'm hoping to do a photoshoot of it soon.

But I guess I'm getting there.

It's not like I'm a dotcom millionaire or anything. These 1997s only go for around 10-12k used from a private seller. And the blue-book is about 10-11k. And like I said, I bought this from a family member so I got hooked up pretty generously (take the aforementioned blue-book value and knock off about 3500.. ).

It's comfy because when my Uncle bought it he got every option available (except for the 2.8L motor ). He even recently took the car in for 75k Mi. major service (car only has about 65k Mi.), got two brand new front wheels, a new top w/ window, a NOAH car cover, etc.

Just work hard, be patient, and have your priorities straight. I have everything I have largely due to the fact that I've busted my *** most of my life and tried to be responsible.

Werd, Ty. But watch some Miata pull up next to me and try to race me. I'd get smoked.

yeah I'm 25... he said he's been wanting a car like that since he was about our age. He's 40's now w/ 3 kids, 1 teenage and 2 little kids.

His family had that F150 and a minivan, and then his wife got a new 4Runner and they were trying to sell the minivan. So finally he just went and traded in the minivan and got the Z3. It's white w/ black details and top, tan interior, and the sporty silver-painted smooth 5-spoke wheels (not the kind on yours). It looks SUPER SUPER clean, I can't wait to ride/drive it. I told him I want to borrow it next time I go on a date.

I was thinking he got a Z4 before I actually saw the car, but he said you can't even find a used one for under 30K. He said this car was half that.

Werd. Yeah those Z4s are way too expensive for me (unless I'm willing to pay for one over the next six years, which I'm not), and plus I don't think they look as good to be honest. That's just my personal opinion.

From the way you describe your boss' car, it really does sound like it would look "SUPER SUPER clean." Hook it up with some pics if you can.
