Hi guys...my brother called me for a piece of information that i honestly couldn't answer for him, so i thought where better to turn. I did search and find half my answer here https://honda-tech.com/zero...33126 so thanks!
The question that i have yet to have answered for sure is this: Are the valve covers found on 96-00 d16y8 ex civic motors NOT stamped vtec? Apparently my brother and his wife were looking at an ex sedan online and he said the pic taken of the motor had a valve cover NOT stamped vtec, although the motor is in fact vtec.
I wish i had a link for you all, but unfortunately i do not. If anyone could tell me fore sure i would greatly appreciate it. I think my brothers concern was just that he wasn't buying a car with a different motor in it then what should be. Thanks very much guys

Some are some aren't it just depends on the year the engine was made. Going by the engine code is the only way to tell for sure. I know some say Honda Motor Co. across the valve cover and other say VTEC, then Honda. So, just go by the codes my friend.

I told him (my brother) the same thing....just thought it was odd that it was a vtec motor but not stamped on the valve cover. Thanks for the info!

Oh, and I'm sorry i forgot to mention the selenoid. The VTEC selenoid usually sits on the left side of the motor and has a green wire running to it, also an indication.

^^^^^Great indication. I had the 96 EX and it did not say VTEC on it.
It was VTACK!
