Buying a used bike questions.
Im planning on getting a bike about 3 hours from me. I will not be riding it back, a friend will instead. How do i go about insuring it, registering it, etc? Is he insured on it if I get insurance on the bike before hand? Can i insure the bike before i even have it?
Basically..what do i have to do to legally get this bike back home...

It depends on your insurance company. Most companies have a 30 day period for new purchases. You can also call them and activate insurance on a vehicle on a date you plan to buy it if they don't offer the 30 day window.
My previous company had a window, but the company I have now asked my friend to tell them the date he planned on buying it, and then had the insurance activated when we picked up the bike.
I would call your insurance company and give them the low-down, they should be able to tell you the stipulations and verify that your friend is covered.

when i got my bike - I called progressive, got my stuff done all over the phone.
then walked into the DMV and registered it. They make you pay the tax and tag fee. then I went home - put the plate on and went riding

Just call your agent... believe it or not they know more than we do.
Ask to make a copy of the registration from the seller in case your friend gets stopped.

I guess it depends on your state and insurance company. In florida the insurance is on the vehicle and not the driver.
That being said your insurance company may have limitations as to whom they will cover so inquire with them.
