Consequences of cheap aftermarket cone filters
I remember seeing on TV, someone mentioning that a car had worn down cylinder walls due to the fact that the air filter wasn't working well enough.
My question is, what are the consequences of using those cheap aftermarket cone filters as opposed to a high quality K&N?

Worn down cylinder walls??.. Oh my gosh!!.. Maybe that's why.......
-- Just playing.. I don't know.. Never heard of such a thing.. I don't know if you can get worn down cylinder walls from a cheap air filter.. But what I want to know is.. Compare cheaper to K&N's less restrictive filter (at least I thought they were less restrictive).. Do the cheap air filters allow more air in or less..??

Here's my totally unprofessional opinion (cause I really don't know)... but my guess would be that the cheap ones don't filter out pollutants as well as a K&N, allowing more junk to be send through the throttle body and into the cylinders, thus wearing it down???
However, going along with the same assumption, it might make sense that the cheap ones actually do let "more" in, whether its more air, or more air + pollutants.
I hope someone can prove me wrong.

i agree just get a K&N it doesnt cost that much.. i dont see the reasoning in getting a 20K car then skimping on a few $ for an air filter.. plus the K&N is washable (via the K&N filter charger kit)... and has the million mile warranty.. all for $30..
IMO, you'll probably blow the engine or get rid of the car before the filter has something to do cylinder walls/piston rings.
