That sucks! What brand of hood was it? I have a vis cf hood and a couple of my friends do to, and no problem yet (knock on wood)! But, I get scared of that happening to me, every time i drive on the thru way I look at my hood vibrating alittle, and i say "stay down mother ******". Hood pins make it look like ****, and I don't wanna put holes into to something i paid $550 for!!

Yeah, it did that because you weren't using any hood pins. Most all companies highly suggest the use of hood pins with any of their CF hoods.

Why are hoodpins recommended with CF hoods? Are the latches ****? (Don't give me any of that 'it's so light it floats' crap either)

no it's because the latch rips out of carbon fiber really easy.

straight from VIS's website

"-Hood pins are required. Intended for OFF ROAD use only."

were you using hood pins? I doubt it. and you were using it on the road. what happened is your fault.

That's what I figured. Damn. I wanted to get one, but I would hate to use hoodpins. Time to get some flat black spray paint instead

Because it's light and it acts like a wing. When air gets under the tip of the hood at high speeds it begins to lift up, which can cause the latch to rip out, slamming the ****** into your windshield.

The bottom of some cf hoods is made of fiberglass which we all know is no stronger than a cookie. So, the latch can easily break off.

Getting cheap hood pins will probably get you the same result as when your hood latch broke. Spend the $50 dollars (at most) and get a good set of pins, it's worth it.

Wow that sucks to hear...sorry to hear about that bro.

I have a Gemini CF hood and don't have hood pins...I hate hood pins, they look so ugly...but the fact of the matter is that they do serve a purpose.

CF hoods are for function not fashion. They are a easy & practical way to shed weight. Not to look cool.

And yes hood pins do serve a purpose... they keep your cf hood from flying up into your f*cking windshield.

Exactly.

I don't care how stupid they look, I'd rather have them look stupid than have my hood fly up on me causing an accident.

I don't mind the look of them, but I would still use them even if I hated them.
