Default Tranny fluid - help please- asap

Well im aware mtf and syncromesh are the best choices .. but the guy at schucks said any 10-40 will work .. for some reason i took his word, and bought 3 qts- is this gonna **** up my tranny? I bought a synthetic at least... Should I just take it back?

thanks -

i would say its ok to use on an emergency/temporary basis, but i would only use real mtf, either honda or synchromesh.

yes LSvtec03 is right. i would take it back and get real mtf, because gear oil has more anti-wear additives than normal motor oil, that is why is smells kinda rotten when you change it out. i am rocking syncromesh and it kicks ***. dont listen to those dickwads at the parts stores.

It won't screw anything up, but I would say use either Honda MTF or GM modified syncromesh. Make sure you don't overfill it.

It should work on temporary basis, but I would recommend honda MTF - very cheap and easy to get.

Taken directly from the owner's manual:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">If Honda MTF is not available, you may use an API service SG, SH, or SJ grade motor oil with a viscosity of SAE 10W-30 or 10W-40 as a temporary replacement. An SG grade is preferred, but an SH or SJ grade may be used if SG is not available. However, motor oil does not contain the proper additives and continued use can cause stiffer shifting. Replace as soon as convenient.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Return the motor oil and purchase the proper MTF.

You must use 10w40! look it up in hybrid honda! It says it all ther or do what i did and call your local dealership! They say, never use MTF its too thick!

you can even throw a little lucas in there but i wouldnt unless it makes u feel better, but if you do use less that half a quart!</TD></TR></TABLE>

yet honda sells MTF

lets end all this useless stupidity... honda manual transmission with work with all 3 fine...mtf is a honda version of any 10w30/40 organic motor oil...mtf is better but if not available or u dont wanna pay for it regular castrol 10w30 or 10w40 will work fine... also syncromesh is very good..it tends to help with that annoying occasional grit banging 4th when redline shifting on the track and ur hand gets a little ahead of ur foot... personally syncromesh is the choice...ive used all 3...ive done swaps.. used ls trans..gsr trans..d series trans..most of the time i run straight organic cheap *** oil and its just as good...these transmissions are ******* bullet proof stock...and to prove it ive done passes on the track with a trans completely dry of oil then took it apart and not 1 scratch on any gear looks like brand new with 40k on it...so there u go 4 transmissions..all different types and mileages 15 different combinations of oil types..all the ******* same ... all my cars are for the track and are beaten to death daily... so decide how much u wanna spend cuz they all do the job fine

because i had a spare one laying around and i wanted to see how much it could take...and it could take it all not 1 scratch on any gear and its been in one of the cars i drive now for over a year and havent had one problem with it...i took it apart 3 months ago and the gears still look brand new...so now i can from experience let noobs know that anything u put in the works fine if running it dry wont even hurt it
