ATS carbon diff - ATS diff oil substitute?
Ok, I'm completely screwed at this point because of a series of purchasing department FUBARs. My ATS diff oil that was promised for today won't be here until Monday at the earliest. Diff is in the car, no oil yet. Must load Friday night for MidOhio and the Runoffs. Still have to do the break-in and fluid change before leaving.
Has anyone running track events had success with other more readily available fluid in an ATS carbon diff? I cringe at the thought of potentially messing up a brand new diff.

Jeremy,
I have no experience of Carbon disc. Do they take the GL85-90 ATS fluid? If that's the case, Kaaz fluid will work as well, and I have some that I can loan you.

Just got a call; supposedly they found a place the could over night it from NY. Why NY can over night it when MI could not I have no idea but now they are saying it will be here tomorrow.
Thanks for the offer Andrie. Hopefully it's ok now.

My guess is it's Yasu from ATS-USA/ATS&ACROSS who is shipping it from NY.
Seems I remember cans of the stuff laying around his office last time I was there.
If you have more issues, contact him direct through the link in my sig below. He's good people

Yes...but not for break-in! Use the ATS stuff for break-in and then a substitute if you really must.
BTW--you'll love that diff. A little noisy, but well worth it.

It's a race car so noise shouldn't be an issue. I can't wait to have the diff NOT go open 5 times a lap at MidOhio. Nothing like sliding sideways through Turn 1, waiting for the diff to hook up, wondering if your going to run out of road. It's got to be worth some lap time improvement over the stock LSD but I don't know how much yet.
Hopefully it works like a champ right out of the box or I'm pretty much screwed for the Runoffs.
edit: just in case some of you are wondering why the stock one goes open.... T2 is allowed dampers only, no springs. So when your heavily loaded up in a turn on race tires, it lifts up the inside rear enough to break traction and the stock gear type (or a Quaife) will go open since they depend on traction at both wheels to function. A clutch type can transfer torque to a single wheel.

Hah, he wouldn't divulge that info to me when I asked! ATS is the only recommended, said the man!
I have a 2 liter can of Kaaz if anyone wants to buy it. I'm in CA. I don't like the ATS because it's non-synthetic. It breaks down too fast (from heat?) and the tranny starts showing signs of grinding.

well, yasu is about as honest as they come. he has not personally used the valvoline, he only report what people tell him. if he were to say "go ahead, use the valvoline" and you had some sort of wear issue, you will most likely hold him responsible.

I'm sure Yasu is honest. Perhaps ATS should do a little more testing using other fluids with at least partial synthetic make-up, since many of their customers drive on race tracks and they could benefit from a fluid that holds up better under extreme heat conditions.
It's just a pet peeve of mine that not only the ATS/Kaaz tranny fluids cost so much more than synthetic or semi-synth, but they are rather inferior to other fluids (in my experience). Yasu does warn people that if the tranny temp goes over a certain degree you have to change the fluid.

Yes, it has crossed my mind, but I'm still working on installing an oil cooler! Do you have, or had one installed in any of your track cars?

My ATS carbon LSD has zero noise... only metal clutch plates really create any noise / chatter.

Wow, T2 allows the ATS unit?
You'll love the new LSD - it was by far the best modification I've ever done to my car. It's quite, and has a very seamless torque transfer compared to LSDs with metal friction plates. Only at low speeds will you feel the torque jitter a bit betwen wheels. Plus it won't overheat!
I broke my ATS LSD in with the ATS gear oil, but will be using M1 next.

Well this weekend was the first time out for the new diff. Looks like it was worth at least 0.6 seconds over the stock S2000 LSD.
sorry to bump an old trhead but I am looking for a reputable ATS dealer...
looking to get a carbon LSD for the K, but can't seem to get a responce from JHP or Password. Anybody else know where I can order one from, or maybe someone can get me hooked up with a deal?

Going directly to the source is probably your best bet, though it may not be the cheapest. Hard to worry about cheapness when you're buying a $1000 LSD though
Is ATS reallly even ATS anymore? I think they are now Carbonetic

That carbon LSD is on my wish list for sure...

not really worried about cheapness, just trying to get the best deal possible (we are talkin more like $1200+...)
Looks like I am going to have to get in touch with Carbonetic or one of there dealers...

On my RWD 240sx I use Motul 90PA without any problems road racing with my 1.5way ATS carbon diff (great diff btw)
The diff was fine the entire season including lasting a 3hour endurance race without any diff cooling!

All they list on the site is the Spoon LSD? Maybe I'll give em a call, although I think I already got an untouchable quote...
