Default Used CRX....What to look for?

I've been thinking of selling my HB to get a CRX that has already been swapped with a DOHC motor. Seems there are alot of them around. Here's one I found on autotrader:

http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=188695692&dealer_id=56859435&car_ye ar=1988&make=HONDA&distance=200&lang=en&max_price= 4000&model=CRX&end_year=1991&min_price=1&certified =&bkms=1126719758136&address=33710&search_type=use d&advanced=&start_year=1988&isp=y&cardist=26

What do I need to look for to make sure I don't get some hack job that's going to give me problems?

Am I better off getting a stock Rex then swap?

In my opnion it is better to get a good deal on a stock crx and do the swap unless you can get a good deal on good quality swapped crx. Just too many uncertains when you purchase a crx with a swap (speaking from personal experience).

One main thing to look for is rust....

I agree with "doitdub" there are to many uncertians, its not that hard to find a cheap crx in decent shape for under 1500 and you can do a GSR swap for fairly cheap so I'd sudjest doing some research and check and see if your willing to commit to something like that or if youd rather jsut pay for the car and deal with problems as you find them.

Thanks, Slomo.....I got it now.

Is it that easy to screw up a GSR swap? I was thinking as long as you keep it N/A it's a pretty straight forward deal.

If I were to get a stock REX, I would have to have a shop do the swap. I'm thinking after paying for a motor and trans, misc. parts and then labor on top of that I'm gonna have to dig deep to pay. Even then, problems are still possible.

Could anyone estimate what it would cost for a shop to do the swap?

take a look at the wiring under the hood and in the cabin...if it looks good like it was done at the factory thats a ..but if it is a mess and all hacked up turn around and run...if an alarm or aftermarket stereo was installed, check the work and make sure that it is professional...i just bought a project car with f'ed up wiring and im going through hell trying to sort everythin out...
thouroughly inspect the body..looking for dents, dings, scratches,RUST,paint fading all that...
make sure u look into the engine bay...look for fixed damage like from a previous accident...even though sum people still have clean titles they could have wrecked the car and fixed it without notifying their insurance...
most imporantly....DRIVE it...if u love it (im sure u will) and the price is reasonable, buy it!
cant wait till i get my own crx
